I’m a big fan of Wes Anderson’s quirky films and dialogue. His frequent use of Alexander Desplat for his scores is also a big plus for me.

Andersen also likes to work with the same actors for many of his films. Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzmsn are a few of the regular actors that he works with,
Anderson has two films that are expected to be released this year. Asteroid City starring Jason Schwatzman, Scarlett Johansen and Tom Hanks will be released June 23, 2023. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, Anderson’s second film based upon a work by Roald Dahl, starring Ralph Fiennes and Benedict Cumberbatch is expected to be released later this year through Netflix.
My top 3 films of Anderson’s are:
Rushmore
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Fantastic Mr, Fox
He really was perfect. Added just enough scumminess to the role to be a great balance the Wes Anderson twee (and I generally really like the Wes Anderson twee).
Royal Tenenbaums is one of my favorite films of all time.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is my hands-down favorite. As I may have posted in the past, it took me about 2-4 times to appreciate it. I fell asleep part-way through the first time or two, but for whatever reason I kept coming back to it. And on one viewing, it suddenly jelled, and I totally got it.
I also love Moonrise Kingdom and just about anything else he’s done (I’ve seen most but not all of his movies), but Life Aquatic is in a class by itself.
I’m a fan of Wes Anderson movies but I’m most partial to Life Aquatic and Moonrise Kingdom. Most have great soundtracks, but Life Aquatic gets the nod for the excellent Bowie renditions by Seu Jorge, played in the movie. Moonrise Kingdom gets a mention because my wife and I saw it on one of our anniversaries in the magical small theatre in the town of Friday Harbor, WA.
