Thanks for all the replies, I’ve been doing a bit of research on my own and have a couple of quick questions:
-
I see the San Francisco 49ers are playing football at home one day we’re there (the 28th I think), can we just turn up on the day and get a ticket or would we have to book in advance?
-
I’ve found a card that lets you into all the top attractions free (Link ), does anyone have any experience with this?
I’d stay away from that card. I just took a look at their ‘top attractions’ and half of those are not even in San Francisco, they’re a good 40 minutes to an hour drive out of the city. Looks like a waste of $50 to me. If you’re considering one museum, better to just pay once you get there. If you’re planning on cramming in 3 or 4 museums in your visit, the card might be worth it, otherwise, I’d skip it.
Maybe you came during a weird weather year, or maybe you’re getting confused with summer weather. San Francisco in December is almost always cold, usually windy, often foggy, and sometimes rainy.

I think about 5,000 general admission tickets go on sale on Friday. I could be way off on that one though. But I’d check Craig’s List or a ticket broker too.

Sounds good, but I’ve never heard of it.
Just to add to the growing list. If it’s your first time here, do the tourist stuff. I’ve lived here all my life and there is much more to the town that Peir 39, but all the traditional tourist things are fun. Whatever you choose, you really can’t go wrong.
Start with a cable car ride from Powell and Market.
It works in your favor that the 49ers are probably going to suck this year – it’s not exactly as hot a ticket as it would have been in the 1990s.
You, uh, do know that the 49ers play American football, right? Just checking.
