office 2000 (word) and xp?

i just bought a new computer with xp. i am trying to run word from office 2000 and having many problems. is office 2000 suppose to work on xp?

i am not skilled at word by any means but i am losing whole sentences, they just disappear. do i need to turn off some auto feature?

all i want to do is type a letter, can’t get that done.

You should not be seeing any problems running office 2000 on xp.

Windows 2000 and XP should be binary-compatible.

If you still have the Office 2000 cdroms, I would try removing Office and re-installing.

Or (cheap and shameless plug), download OpenOffice 1.0. It has everything you need in an office suite, and it is free. There are some differences that can be strange at first, but it’s free, stable, robust and actively being updated. If you need to share files with people without OpenOffice (or StarOffice), you can save as .doc or .rtf.

Office 2000 works perfectly on my computer (XP pro). I used word more than anything else and haven’t noticed any problems at all with it. In fact, XP has worked perfectly with every software package made by Microsoft that I tried (and had problems with almost every non-microsoft software, but that’s a point for another thread).

I did not have to do any fiddling at all to make it work. Just installed it and ran it.

While Microsoft doesn’t heavily advertise the fact, windows 2000 is really NT version 5.0, and windows XP is really NT version 5.1. Very surprisingly, I’ve found a few programs that work on NT 4.0 but don’t work on XP, but I have yet to find any software that works on 2000 and doesn’t work on XP.

as i mentioned i am not proficient at “word.” the main problem i have is it keeps doing things i do not want it to do. a stupid example is it capitalizes when i do not want it to.

i have a graphic design company and i use word for my contracts. if i type in a “1,” as in one sign, on the next line it tries to put in a “2”.

is there a way i can shut off any automatic programming built into the program?

Yes.

Open the Tools menu and click AutoCorrect. You will probably want to uncheck most or all of the options in the AutoFormat As You Type and AutoFormat tabs in the box that appears.

Those are not bugs those are features

First, check Options under Tools. Then check Autoformatting under Insert. That should fix most of your problems.

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
