After Dwight killed Sprinkles, he caught a stray cat on his farm, which he had been calling Garbage, and offered it as a gift to Angela. Angela rejected it and Dwight released the cat in Vance’s office. Andy found the cat in the Vance loading area and gave it to Angela.
The thing is, Pam and Jim spent 3 seasons not together, but, (for the most part I would say in love, Jim more so at first). It was played out pretty damn well, but to a point where the writers didn’t want to linger a relationship over the audiences head.
Ricky Gervais creator of the UK version, (What’s his title on the US version?), said on Inside The Actor’s Studio that he created Jim and Pam’s UK counterparts to represent the audience. Which is probably why Jim always breaks the forth wall by addressing the audience with his mug. Like Sigmagirl said, can be annoying, But also mocked by others on the show
So for three season’s we were treated to the two ‘ousiders’, (however there are definitely other ‘normal people’ on the show, such as Oscar, Karen, David, Darryl), try to find each other. It was actually quite compelling (imo). Now that they are together, the writers have come up with some wrenches to throw into the relationship that could potentially have bad consequences, but is usually resolved in the same episode.
There have been other romances, that are just as interesting, but not nearly as… I guess ‘heartfelt’ and ‘sad’ would be the words. Also, there are other, more somber moments in the show. I don’t want the show to turn into a run-of-the-mill sitcom. I like The Office as a Dramedy.
Thanks, Merijeek and acsenray.
Jim doesn’t break the fourth wall because there isn’t one. Everyone on the show knows and acknowledges that there’s a camera crew filming a “reality show” in their office.
When Jim looks at the camera, it’s often because his co-workers are so asinine he’s counting on the camera crew (e.g., us) to provide him with some validation that he’s not the crazy one: “Do you believe these people?” That’s sometimes pretty funny. But when he plays up to the camera to show how hip and funny and cool he is, it’s obnoxious.
Apparently it was
“I get an ulcer every morning when I wake up and realize I have to come work for you! For you!”
Sounded better in Spanish
Was anybody else disappointed that Creed didn’t get a turn at the roast? He was the one I was most looking forward to!
That’s true. Wrong term to use
It seems to me that to some extent these are two episodes in one. They’ve done this before with hour long shows so that they can be split up later.
The first part is Michael at his worst. Completely stupid and not listening to people. This is also “The Office” at its worst. Not only was Michael at his maximum jerkiness but so was Dwight (for both parts). The rest of the stuff with the other cast was really good.
The second part had a somewhat toned down Michael (good) but the other stuff wasn’t so good. (Apart from the roast.)
There doesn’t seem to be any point to have Michael and Dwight be such jerks if there isn’t payback. (Which they could have fitted into an hour long slot.)
The episode also seems to sit outside the recent story arc. No followup to the Dwight-Angela-Andy triangle. No followup to Michael being in good with HQ. The Pam’s dad storyline comes out of nowhere. Etc. I expect the next episodes to mainly ignore the events of this one. Usually not a good thing.
Yeah, had Pam’s dad even been mentioned before? I remember her mom making a brief appearance and I think it was her mom who Pam called right after the events of the Casino Night episode, but I don’t remember any reference to Pam’s belief that her parents had a great marriage or anything that would have set up this subplot.
I think it was also rather clumsily handled – all “tell” and no “show”. The episode with Jim’s brothers was also kind of out of nowhere, but at least that subplot played out onscreen rather than being a string of incidents that Pam and Jim tell to the camera.
