Office lunch ideas

I love wraps and used to make them all the time when I was in New Zealand, however I find the wraps I buy at the supermarket here (Sainsburys) aren’t as thin and pliable, so they tend to break as you wrap them up.

I think the trick is not to try to do too much, foldwise. I lay the wrap on a piece of clingfilm, slather on condiments (salsa, sour cream, guacamole etc), lay meat and salad stuff up the middle (a fair heap), and just try to get the side edges to meet, or overlap just a bit. Don’t try to fold the bottom up or anything. Then wrap with the clingfilm to make it all hold and seal. When eating, just open one end and eat down. The juices leak out the bottom of the wrap, but the clingfilm should hold it all.

Simple. And now I am hungry, and it’s not lunchtime yet. :smack:

Bean burritos with stuff in them is one of my favorite foods but the store bought refried beans never taste like they do from the restuarant and I am always disappointed when I decide to give them another try because it is just not the same.

Yeah, store bought refries taste like poop, and try though I might, I can never cook up refries at home that taste anywhere near as good as even the most basic taqueria can make them. I gave up trying years ago and now just go to my favorite place and buy 'em. As long as you’re there, you can save time and pick up a little of the restaurant’s salsa, too.

This is making me want a very plain bean and cheese burrito for my lunch today.

I buy frozen dinners, usually lean cuisine at 4-5 of them for 10 bucks.

Same here. I grab one in the morning. Add a can or 2 of soda if I think of it, add some fruit or pretzels if I think of it. Controlled portions, controlled cost. Some days (like today) I’ll go down to the company cafeteria (next building over) and get a big salad from the salad bar.

If any UK-Dopers have suggestions as to where to get good wraps, I’ll happily go a bit further. I have Tescos, Asda and Morrisons in my immediate area.

Can you try microwaving the wraps - just for a few seconds - before rolling things up? I find this makes them more pliable.

Personally, I like taking leftovers to work, but now that we have kids and a busy schedule, leftovers are always the next night’s dinner. So I rarely have anything like that to spare for mere lunches. I don’t mind having the same thing 2 meals in a row, though.

It’s the lard, baby! Which is why I personally don’t eat the creamy deliciousness that is restaurant refried beans: They make me mas gorda. I eat fat free refried beans on occasion, but there’s no way to delude myself that they taste anything like the authentic restaurant variety. But like so many other things that taste good, they are not good for you.

For my lunches, I have pretty much the same “sides” every day (baby carrots, Baked Lays, Diet Coke) with a rotating entree of (a) a Lean Cuisine; (b) Campbell’s microwave and eat soups; (c) a sandwich or wrap; or (d) leftovers. But unless I thought the dinner the night before was awesome, I don’t have leftovers for lunch the very next day; I have them for lunch on the second day because I don’t like eating the same exact thing meal after meal.
