Office of the vice presidency

Someone just told me that Joe Liberman was not born an American Citizen and therefore could not be elected President. I could find the requirements for the office of President(Age, citizenship, etc.), but I cannot find them for the office of vice president. Are they the same? Can someone who was not born a U.S. citizen be elected as the Vice Prez. and become the “Grand Puba” if the prez. should die in office?

I didn’t know Stamford, CT wasn’t in the United States. That’s where Lieberman was born.

The VP and President jobs have identical qualifications.

The vice president must be qualified to become president.

[quote]
But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States. – 12th Amendment

Which brings up the question (note: it does not beg the question): Where did your friend get his information? Do you really think that no one noticed during the selection process that Lieberman was ineligible? And that the Republicans wouldn’t gleefully announce that fact the day after the annoucement?

Lieberman’s WIFE was not born in the United States. I think your someone wasn’t listening very closely or else the smear campaign is starting.

And just to clarify, the qualifications for president exist down the line of succession. So when Nixon used the Berlin telephone book to pick his cabinet and staff, Kissinger was not in the line of succession after he officially took the position of Secretary of State.

Similarly, Madeline Albright is not in line of succession.

> Similarly, Madeline Albright is not in line of succession.

I’ll sleep a little better knowing that.

Lieberman’s wife is also a lesbian Wiccan … oh, no wait, that’s Hilary.

Hey Mojo!

You probably already know this, but do you know what Hadassah Lieberman’s hometown is?

That’s right. Gardner, Massachusetts.

I went and saw her a few weeks ago in front of the Elm St. School. Tipper was there, too, but I didn’t see her.

Later,
Stephen

Wasn’t John McCain born in the Panama Canal Zone? So I’m guessing that U.S.-held lands must count towards the birth requirement. I don’t know exactly what does–embassies, military bases, territories (Guam, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, etc.) though.

Whoa Sua!
Were we just reading the same The New American article?
