Oh crap. We have a new puppy.

Cute dog.

When I was a teen my family got a golden retriever puppy when we already had a cat. They eventually got along. Fortunately for the dog, the cat had been declawed* so the constant face-batting when he got too close got the message across without causing injury.

*: Not my decision.

Stole my post. Any idea what breed(s)?

Seriously dead of the cute.

He looks very young. I highly recommend crate-training, for your sanity and your housebreaking needs  (Well, the dog’s, not yours.) (Then again…)

WazzalookatdaPUPPYwifdawinklyeyebrows…izzum yous a good dog? Yes you izzim! Snorgle. Snorgle again, just because.

It’s hard to tell when they’re all round and wrinkly, but he looks labtacular to me.

Sailboat

Akita?

Norsk Elghund, second only to floppy-eared mutts as my favorite dogs in the world.

Zoidberg’s mooshed up little face could change my mind, however.

Love him, love him

You say there were others?

Hmmmmm…

Not a clue. We met mamma doggie (who was in the dumpster with the puppies), and she looks nothing like the puppies. If you didn’t know she was the mother, you wouldn’t guess at all. No idea, of course, who daddy is…

Come to think of it, Haze, “Boshin-Tang” would be a good doggie name, too!

I’ve seen housecats who withhold their claws when schooling the dog, so scratches aren’t a given. They can happen, but they’re not inevitable.

True. The clawless batting is usually a warning given, then if the dog still doesn’t back down/behave itself, the cat draws a knife.

Looks like a shar-pei baby to me, in those photos.

Don’t forget that the litter could have had multiple fathers. Did all of the pups look like Zoidberg, or did they look like all sorts of different dogs?

Cute pup, and the lady holding him is very pretty too.

38 years of cats and 32 years of dogs (that can’t be right, that’d mean I’m old), it’s been very rare that one of the cats has caused a yelp from a dog. Maybe once or twice when they’re puppies and still frisky (aka “stupid”) then they learn what the little growly toy will do if pushed.

Our cranky cat has cowed 3 medium size dogs in her life, and I can’t remember her ever actually clawing one. 2 of them were adults when she showed up, so it’s not just training the puppy.

Oh, he’s sooo cute! Can you mail me one of his littermates?

The cats will probably teach him that he’s the bottom of the pack. If they’re like the cat we had when my late dog was a puppy, they might draw a little blood - Lightning used to rake Princess with her claws if the puppy wandered by the chair she was in - but puppy will soon learn to keep away from them. Of course, once he gets bigger than them, there might be a pack shuffle.
