[cephalopod hijack] And here I was thinking that the cuttlefish’s ability to blend in while swimming over a checkered tank floor (complete with the checker pattern actually moving across the skin of the cuttlefish…like the track of a treadmill) was the most impressive display of cephalopod skillz. Cephalopods are scary intelligent, too. I’ve seen documentaries of octupi learning new skills just from observing others. Incredible!
That is so cool. It’s right up there with the realization there are a quarter of a million critters living in your eyelashes and every time you put on makeup you’re feeding them. I think it’s a quarter of a mil, I might have confused the number but definitely eyelash feeders hungrily sucking up that eyeliner and mascara.
