Oh my god- what happened to Rachel Ray?

My favorite "TV Girlfriend: as my wife mockingly puts it- she looks, umm- horrible.

Her hair is long and stringy, her face is all puffy and it looks like she put on some serious weight.

Is she starting a family? Or did cooking and eating all the fabulous food (and doing the $40 a day food travel show too) catch up to her like it would to me. My wife and I marveled at how much she could put away and still look so great. What changed?

I still think she’s a babe.

She started eating at Burger King.

My husband always liked watching how heartily she would eat too, but he said she looked like a heavy lady waiting to come out. He was sure she would balloon at some point. Guess it has happened then.

I always thought that was the stupidest idea for a show ever. Oooo she can survive on only 40$ of food a day, Big fucking deal. Only on very rare occasions do I, and most people, spend anywhere near 40$ a day for one persons food. Even on vacation if I am splurging on a 30 dollar dinner I scrimp on lunch and breakfast for about 3 bucks.

link??

It isn’t about “surviving” on 40 dollars a day. Obviously anybody could spend 15 bucks for 3 meals at McDonalds and survive just fine. It’s about eating three good meals at decent restaurants in a city. Not just scrimping on breakfast and lunch so you can afford a 30 dollar dinner.

Wolfman, I think the same thing, even if I do see MGibson’s point. Not too bad if you’re alone and have $300 a week just for food but a family of four would have a great time “only” spending $160 every single damn day on food. Heh.

You wouldn’t take a family of four to where she’s going. It’s adult meals.

Oh my, that’s really not true (yes I’ve seen it.) Believe it or not most kids eat. Real food even. A 14 year old (for that matter a 7 year old) eats the same thing as his mom or dad does usually, and usually they all go on vacation together. Heh. But you are right, unless they were quite rich they wouldn’t be eating like that, even on vacation. My family did it for a lot less last time we spent a long weekend in a city. But we even ate with the real people (the grownups.)

No commentary here. Just a link.

What the hell are you babbling about?

Mojo…that’s the “before” version…

And she also does a show called “30 Minute Meals” for all of you who hate the $40/day premise.

Neurotik? What were you babbling about? “Adult” only meals? That was one of the silliest things I’ve ever seen. I’m sorry if my self-explanatory answer is confusing to you, but it is, as I say, self-explanatory. A bit sarcastic but not meant to be nasty, as your reply seems to be.

The 30 minute meal show is the one I know her from, Duke. Decent premise, decent food.

I love the 30 Minute Meals show because there’s no “magic oven” - she really does cook it all in 30 minutes. And sometimes some of it is storebought and she’s “Let me show you how you can put some of what you made with this stuff we got at the store and everybody will think you’re a fabulous cook.” I appreciate it as a really useful cooking show.

Could somebody post a picture of new-fat-Rachel? I guess I’ve just been catching reruns.

I was saying that many of the places she goes to is not supposed to be for a family of four. They are for adults, not some place you bring the kids. Then you make some sort of condescending reply about how kids need to eat, too. No shit, Sherlock.

Yes, I’m aware kids eat. But when my folks go on vacation now that I’m out of the house they go places they wouldn’t have gone while on vacation with me and my brother. When my parents wanted a night out on their own, they went to places they wouldn’t normally take the kids, i.e. “adult meals.” While some of the places Ray goes to are very family-friendly, many are best suited for two adults. The show is not a family travel show.

I’m sorry that was difficult for you.

When I have seen the show there is no adult theme. The whole premis is stupid to me. She goes into a town, asks the locals what is trendy, and eats there. And with 40 bucks, that is no big deal, everybody can and does do that. Now a show about how to travel and eat good, fresh, healthy food for 15 bucks a day would be good. But anybody who can’t figure out how to eat a good 10 breakfast, 10 lunch, and 20 dollar dinner for one person, should get a show working on a farm in Arkansas. And for the record, one of the few shows I have seen she had a $2 fruit smoothy for breakfast so she could splurge on a $25 lobster dinner.

Well neurotik, while I still completely disagree with you, my answer still holds for the lone childless couple. It’s great if you have, oh $300 a week just for food for one person, though I know few people who do, but for two people we’re nearing $600 in that same week. What a crock.
