Oh No, Another Fnord Gun thread.

Well I am looking for advice again, There are two handguns that I am looking at purchasing on my 21st birthday(California laws suck ass) A Beretta 92fs, blue, with trijicon night sights. (9mm) And a Kimber 1911 Custom Classic in 45 acp, blue, standard dovetail sights.(Think Colt 1911)

I am thinking the Beretta first, but I want the Kimber as my carry gun for my CCW. The Beretta and Kimber both fit remarkably well in my hands, and both are easy to shoot.

Beretta:10 shots +1(15 with out of state mags,
Kimber: 8 shots +1

Both could be used for a concealed weapon, but the Kimber would be used most often.

Decisions Decisions…

I have a Colt 1991A1 (re-introduction of the “original” 1911) and a Beretta 92FS.

If you live in L.A. County, good luck with your CCW. I’ve heard they just aren’t issued here. Not that I’d ever carry a gun (I’m not paranoid and I don’t carry great amounts of money, nor wear any jewelry aside from a nice watch), but I’d like to have the option to do so legally. But that’s for GD.

If I were going to be in a shootout, I’d rather have the Beretta. The .45 has more “knockdown” power, but some 9mm hollowpoints should level the playing field somewhat. And I’ve got 16 rounds (if I have one in the chamber to begin with) vs. 7 (or 8).

I also think the Beretta is safer to carry. When the safety is engaged, the firing pin rotates so that it is not in line with the primer. That means you only have to flick off the safety and you’re ready to go, but there is no danger of the round being fired while the safety is on. The safety on the Colt can only be engaged when the hammer is cocked. If you have a round in the chamber with the hammer cocked and the safety on, there is the danger of accidental discharge if the safety becomes disengaged.

Besides. The Beretta looks cooler.

Well I live in Shasta county. It should be no problem getting it.

Eventually I will get both, just a matter of time.

Ya gotta test fire them puppies, fnord!

Oh, now I get it! That’s really why you wanted all those fruitcakes! Mound up a suitable backing, tack up a few targets and let fly…they’re tougher than Kevlar!

These are CARRY GUNS??!!?? WTF!

Get a G27 if you want a good carry gun. Sure it is not a difficult thing to carry a full sized pistol (I’ve carried a Glock 20 before), but I would not recommend it for all the time. But sometimes you will just want something smaller in size. Like when you are jogging of playing raquetball or something- or just running to the store… get something that goes in your pocket. Smaller doesn’t mean weaker. The G27 has a higher one shot stopping percentage than both the 9mm and the 45acp. (compiled from 1997 police shootings) And the 40 cal hydrashock is the number one defensive round. The Berretta and Kimber are both fine pistols… I could not make that decision for you. It should be made after you choose which one fits better in your hand and which one you actually shoot better with!

If I had to choose of the two which I would rather carry concealed… I would have to go with the Kimber!! They are flatter and narrower and fit nicely on your side or the small of your back. Plus I just really like them!

BTW, forget about the whole ‘not enough ammo’ crap! Eight rounds is pleanty for a carry gun. You just need enough to stop an aggressor long enough to get the hell out of a bad situation (or free someone else from a bad situation). You do not need to plan on getting in some massive shoot out like on Heat. Two or three shots is all you will really NEED. Double tap- and get the hell out of there, then call the police. You don’t need to play SUPER COP just because you are carrying a gun, and go blasting off 20 rounds just because you finally got a chance to shoot at someone.

If you are worried about the whole shoot out scenario, keep an assault rifle or two in the trunk of your car for emergencies. And keep pleanty of spare loaded mags.

I have a serious problem with compact pistols, and even fullsize Glocks, my hands are rather large, and the slide will cut me wide open right in the fleshy part between thumb and index finger. Painfull to say the least. I will have both the Kimber and the Beretta eventually, and the Kimber will be the carry gun. Only for road trips and such, But my question is What should I get first?
My carry gun, or the all around gun?

I do so hope this wont turn into a repeat of my first gun thread.

carry gun, HAND DOWN!!

Think about this… what is an ‘all around gun’? It’s a gun that you think looks cool- you want to show your friends and you like to shoot it. It has very little importance day to day.
Your carry gun is what is important! You will have it with you everyday. It will be a tool. Get what you NEED before getting what you WANT! And since you both NEED and WANT the Kimber anyway… this question should answer itself.

'Course if the time frame between buying both guns is like a month or two, then it really doesn’t matter which you get first. Except that if you get the beretta first, you will have to buy carry holster(s) for it that you will probably only use once in a blue moon after you get the Kimber. Why waste the money?

BTW, you wanna talk about huge hands…

You know the big wrestler guy named… oh, maybe I should not give out his name. Anyway, he is really big. Like the size of a GIANT. And he always puts on a BIG SHOW. This guy is like 7’4 375lbs!! (doesn’t matter anyway since he doesn’t know how to use a computer to read this. he told me he is a ‘low-tech redneck’)

He bought a 1500 dollar 50 cal Desert Eagle from me. His hand is too BIG for it. His pinky hangs off the bottom of the grip and the slide cuts the top of his hand. That is a huge hand. His FINGERS barely fit in the trigger gaurd of a full size glock. Anyway… I’m just sayin he’s huge, that’s all

Speaking of carry guns- I also sold him a shoulder holster rig for the Desert Eagle.

Y’know, something similar happened to me once. First time I fired our Beretta (I was 12 or so), I was holding it in two hands, and my thumb on my left hand was raised just a LITTLE too high. Pulled the trigger, and the recoil shaved off a good centimeter-long cut of skin.

Oops.

I never did it again.

(By the way, I don’t know exactly what kind of Beretta ours is… it’s old, that much I know, and I don’t wanna go dig it out of the gun locker right now… I’ll let ya know tomorrow. I know this, though… it’s a nicely made piece of work).

And Bear_Nenno… if you’re talking about The Big Show (of WWF fame), he’s only 7’2".

Andre the Giant (RIP) was 7’4", but I think he weighed more than 375 lbs.

(Once again, I prove my worth as King of the Nitpicks)

Well I just thought I would dig this baby up and dust it off.

I ended up getting the Kimber, I am glad I did too, it shoots ten times better for me than the Beretta did. It was made for my hand. I have put about 550 rounds through it, its broke in pretty good now.

I was practicing double taps on a tactical target (with the orange heart square) first shot went into the heart, second shot was a little off, and went right through where the sternum is, about 3 inches lower than the adams apple. would have gone right through the spinal cord.

I almost have my CCW permit, all I have to do is my interview with the Sheriff and pay my 129 bucks.

My next gun was going to be a Walther PPK, but its too small, so as soon as I find a Kel-Tec in 40 S&W I will get it. (Not available in California due to saftey testing BS, but commisioned guns are still available)

Of course, a (single action) 1911 with the hammer down is slightly less effective as a weapon than a brick, especially in need-it-now situations.

And FWIW, the 1911 looks far cooler than the Beretta. :stuck_out_tongue:
