You know, I do too - I mean, I couldn’t geek out about them so much if I didn’t find them special. But my cult of the guitar always leads back to what they do and how they are used. I love Dimebag Darrell’s cheesy lightning bolt guitar - not because it epitomizes pointy shredder-osity but because he played the crap out of it and it was beat in all kinds of wondeful ways (can’t find a photo since Dean has several Dimebag models now, so photos of those are all I turn up).
But I love jazz archtops in their elegant way. A D’Angelico New Yorkerhas every right to be in the MoMA Design exhibit as a statement of Bauhaus form following function, beautifully.
And the news gets worse…some totally irreplaceable historic guitars and instruments were destroyed during the flood of Soundcheck. The Musicians Hall of Fame had been storing their stuff there while looking for a new building.
