I should clarify something. Rizzo’s time as chief or police and then mayor or Philly was long before I lived in Pennsylvania. However, I have done some research on him as well. While many still consider him a great man who was tough on crime, I join with the group who consider Rizzo a racist thug. Firing a round into the ground and yelling “Freeze!”? Sounds lke Rizzo. Stopping, harassing and threatening people who were innocently and legally just walking by jus because they were not white? That was definitely Rizzo.
Believe it or not, he was white. He was just running and covered with sweat.
That house was sold decades ago… but that neighborhood was incredibly upscale. Still… he had his cops out on the streets like rabid junkyard dogs. When we visited, we were told to only play in the backyard.
Philly back then… where the only place you could catch a beating worse than a cop was to play hockey against the Flyers.

I am watching Comet (one of the over the air channels that came after the switch to digital. Comet shows mostly old SF programs and movies) and I keep seeing these ads. It is annoying enough that the ad keeps praising Trump and listing his great qualities. It is bad enough to know that many people will see the ad and rush to pay the $40 the manufacturer is asking.
The worst part is this- I am certain, absolutely certain, the company had two molds and two ads prepared. If Harris had won, they would have used the other mold and run the other ad. I expect the moronic buyers of this ‘collectable’ will praise the company for its bold and patriotic support of Trump. The company will quietly destroy the mold commemorating a Harris victory and destroy all copies of the ad doing the same.
No shit.
It’s no different than when a team wins the World Series and their winning merch is already available. The stuff showing the loser winning is quietly sent to other countries in bulk/destroyed.
I was all set to make stir fry for dinner last night. Had the veggies prepped, sauce all made up, rice cooking on the stove… and my electric wok wouldn’t heat up. It was a cheap Hamilton Beach electric wok that’s probably lasted far beyond it’s life expectancy, but still… argh. I had to pack everything up and stick it in the fridge, then order Pizza Hut and hope DoorDash didn’t steal my pizza like last time.
On of my coworkers has sent me a list of freebies I can get today because I am a veteran.

I might try for the convenience store free lunch and car wash but I really don’t see me traipsing all over the place racking up food/coffee.
I’ve got two gripes against Winco Foods today. Gripe the first: they don’t carry canned wax beans. Any brand at all. How am I supposed to make a four bean salad without wax beans? The only wax beans in the whole store are to be found in pitiful ratios in their canned THREE bean salad.
Which brings me to Gripe the Second: THREE bean salad? WTF? Green beans, wax beans. Kidney beans, GARBANZO beans! ALL of those belong in that delicious side dish. Three bean salad is a preposterous travesty.
I had to go into a Fred Meyer to find a can of wax beans. Ick.
Are you saying they omit the garbanzo beans? WTF?!

Our local Safeway has turned to shit (and even smells like mildew), so we have to shop there for most of our groceries.
I called my health insurance on my lunch break today. After about ten minutes of automated menus, I got a human. I explained that I wanted a therapist who did tele health. They gave me the phone number of another company and said I needed to call them for tele health. The human offered to transfer me, but by that time I had almost no time left in my break. So I said no and resolved to make the call after work.
I called. I got a human almos immediately. She asked the usual questions- name, birthdate, phone number, e-mail addess etc. Then, she asked what application I was using. I had no idea what she meant. It turns out, I need to use one of several approved web sites or phone apps to talk to the therapist I end uo with through that company. The human I talked to at my insurance company never mentioned anything about that. I tried calling them. They are closed for the day. So, I need to call back during business hours tomorrow.
Is it illegal to install high intensity bright lights around the rear bumper of a car?
The state is NJ. I’m almost positive it is… but I wish I had some consensus on this.
Lovely Next Door Neighbor… the one who is now carrying around a CCW pistol, has installed these on his car… and turns them on whenever I take my garbage cans out front on garbage night. He knows the bother me ( I’ve had light sensitivity since my cataract surgery.
Long story short, he’s an Asshole. Also, he has the totally wrong temperament to ever have a CCW. Obviously all of these things are aggressive and an attempt to make my life in my house and on my property unpleasant.

Not from NJ, I don’t think I’ve ever even been there (though funny enough I was born in upstate NY despite living almost my whole life on the other side of the country)… But looking it up, there is a law against shining your high beams behind another driver, yet I don’t see anything about it going the other way.
