Oh, noes! The lil'wrekker is now being bad, bad, bad.

She has decided no one has had a worse life than her. The Pandemic has ruined her life. Can’t take her long dreamed of trip to Japan to study, it is cancelled. Her Senior year at her University is gonna be all screwed up. Can’t go anywhere or see her friends even though everyone has free time.

While she was bemoaning her existence she started listing things that set her up for a ruined life ever since she was a babe.

I’ll just hit the high points:

  1. Born to less than the sophisticated family she should of been.
2 Skipped first grade. Thereby forever making her the youngest person in her class.
  2. Having to choose between cheer-leading and band.
  3. Her boyfriend, altho she loves him, is poor and drives an ugly car.
  4. Her dog doesn’t like her, or even know her.

The 2 new ones:
A. Her new jeans are too tight.
B. Dad (or me) won’t give her his credit card to order new clothes.

Poor girl. Life’s a bitch.

I bet she Aced her drama class.

I admit my nerves are getting a bit frayed. Three weeks cooped up in a small house gets tiresome. My wife and I value our personal space.

I wish now that I had built a home on 6 acres. At least then I could stay busy with a garden and other outdoor projects.

i was going to say what she cant return the jeans … but I remembered the near me Walmart isn’t taking any returns at all …

She has worn the jeans a few times. She’s been sitting on her butt noshing.

Me and her are gonna start walking further. I need to get moving more and she needs the excercise.

Acey, I have 90acres. Still not enough room. (:))

But are those 90 acres enough when the bears, wild boars and snakes show up?

The bear is awake. Big Wrek got a message from someone who saw it crossing the county road.

No wife here, but my nerves are getting a little frayed too. The weather isn’t helping; we had yet another snowfall (Beck, that’s a bumpin’ snowfall ;)), and outdoor activities are thus limited to shovelling snow, and walking up and down the street. I had hoped to get started on the yardwork, and practicing my golf swing in the back yard, but now–I cannot.

In a way, I can understand the L’il Wrekker. Though I cannot speak to tight jeans or ugly cars or cheerleading, I was her age once, and can understand the frustration of cancelling a planned trip, and being cooped up with parents. Much life experience is helping me get through this all alone; but I’m sure that it is very difficult for younger people.

Beck, point out to the Li’l Wrecker that every one of her problems contains a hidden blessing. Of course she won’t listen to you.

I’m secretly rejoicing. I love having her close. And poor penniless boyfriend is here* as well. It could always be worse.

They’ve been here since the week before my surgery. It happened to be springbreak. So we’re closing in on 6 weeks.

**Spoons: **I say go out and hit snowballs.
I never thought of you Canadians sheltering in place, as well. I know, I know I should have realized. :smack:

I do have a project list for all my refugees. We are gardening big time. No one is excused. My Tomato plants** are about an inch tall in the cold frame. All the beans and peas were planted today. Nearly have greens big enough to eat.
Son-of-a-wrek planted his potato slips Friday.

We’ll have produce, anywhoo.

*eating all the leftovers.
**Arkansas Pink tomatoes and Arky girl.

You’re doing fine, Beck. Yes, we Canadians are sheltering in place. Nobody is working outside of the home, unless they are essential. I can get groceries from the local supermarket, but I cannot go to my local watering hole, as I so often did until this. It’s closed, as is my favourite coffee shop. My law practice is basically shut down, as I can act for clients only within certain parameters at the local courthouse (the right of habeas corpus still remains, for example, and judges are standing by), but the law library–a place where I research matters, if I cannot do so online–is closed.

As I’ve said before, my world has become very small. Although I show no symptoms, I’m being careful. I’m basically in my house all day, unless I need to shovel snow, or get groceries. I’ve spoken with my neighbours over the fence, at a good distance. I’ve spoken with friends and family by telephone. I’m looking forward to getting rid of the snow, so I can do more outside, without getting near anybody. Even having temps warm to where I could have a cup of coffee on the back deck in the spring sunshine would be a welcome respite from the seemingly-neverending winter we are having. I’m jealous of the other Dopers who are reporting spring flowers in their gardens. I look out at my back yard, and I see–snow. Spring flowers would brighten my mood.

Yeah, Beck–we’re dealing with the same sheltering-in-place as you are.

PPB does have a use–removing science experiments from the fridge.

When does everyone have to grab a rifle and defend the garden from the wild life?

We have 20, but all the adjoining woods are owned by people we are on good terms with. We can hike/horseback ride over many hundreds of acres. Still not enough.

I remember all too well the time The Daughter had a pity party and hit us with the tired, teenaged lament: “I didn’t ask to be born!”

Well, DUH! Who does?

He complaint made me see red! I was exhausting myself trying to survive every day, to provide a home and utilities and food, and SHE is unhappy?

I roared back with full power of The Mother (you know what I mean) and said, “Hey! I gave you LIFE,”

If Li’l Wrekker thinks she has been singled out to have her existence crapped on by the Fates, have her strap in a face mask and put on a pair of gloves, and then she can help pass out food baskets to people in need.

If Big Wrekker has a spare hazmat suit laying around (who knows with that man?), she can go help transport bodies to the morgue.

It’s all a matter of perspective.

hey, beck, don’t keep us hanging–tell us…which was it? cheerleading, or band? Huh? Huh? We gotta know!!!
'Cause either way…she’s got a useful skill for passing time while stuck in the house.

If it was band, tell her to play somethin’. That’ll make the family happy, fer sure…

And if it was cheerleading, tell her to do some moves. In her tight jeans.
That’ll make the boyfriend happy. Even more sure.

She actually managed to do both. She played flute in the Concert band. She practiced with marching band but cheerleader at all the games. She also did Drama and was in all the school plays. Was invited to act in many in of the Community Playhouse productions. She was in the Choir at school and sang anywhere someone would let her.

I spent many, many hours at her rehearsals and watching or listening to her. Going to waaaaayyyyy more highschool athletic events than I wanted to.

She did EVERYTHING.
Except Dance. :frowning:

Girl could not dance. She flunked out of ballet. My heart was broken :frowning:

You’re so right. She’s a bit spoiled. It’s all my fault.
I would like her to volunteer but I can’t take the chance. I would never live through the virus if someone was to bring it here. I got rid of Pancho and I intend on living for awhile even if it kills me:)

She’ll be okay. She was just having a case of the ‘oh, poor me’s’ yesterday.
