"Oh, St. Peter? I speak jive." [RIP Barbara Billingsley]

Barbara Billingsley has passed on.

I guess we all should’ve listened to Mrs Cleaver

RIP

Story.

“Ward, don’t you think you’ve been a little bit hard on the Beaver lately?”
(Apparently she also was the voice of Nanny on Muppet Babies! I had no idea – I used to watch that religiously when I was little)

Holy crap I did too!

Hopefully at the end she was able to “jus’ hang loose blood so someone could come on the rebound on the medi-side…”

We know already, but I’ll admit, your thread title is clearer.

Probably should have the point of the thread in parantheses

As I said in the death thread, I think this is a urban legend. As much as I would like to think she said that. I think I have seen every episode, listening for this particular line. Maybe they have edited it out in the reruns.

I have always wanted June Cleaver to give me a spanking. :o You’ve been a bad boy.

RIP Mrs. Cleaver ::sniff::

:frowning:

Wow it’s sad that she is no longer with us.
Even though she was most closely associated with “Leave It To Beaver”, I think (as other SDMB’ers have noted) she scored a* tour de force* with her appearance in the movie “Airplane”.

*Jive ass dude don’t got no brains anyhow! Hmmph! *

Ms Billingsley will be missed.

Ms. Billingsley was all class. I loved that show.

At the time beaver was a harmless word for an animal. It was another 10 years before it assumed a sexual connotation.

You mean people thought this was actually said on the show? Huh, I thought it was just an obvious joke.

This is sad news. I think she was just mentioned in a thread about actors over 90 who were still active. I grew up on Leave it to Beaver. Ward and June, Wally and the Beav, Larry, Mondello, Whitey, Gilbert, and Eddie and Lumpy were all a big part of my childhood.

Gee whiz, Ms. Billingsley, it sure was swell to know you.

I clearly remember seeing this on a TVLand rerun. I can’t prove it and I could be mis-remembering, but I do have what seems to be a clear memory of it.

I also remember seeing the following exchange:

Wally: Mom, where’s Dad?

June: If I know you’re father, he’s out looking for Beaver.

Once again, I can’t prove it and it’s possible I’m mis-remembering, but I have a clear memory of this.

We gonna catch you on the rebound wit’ da medicide.

Barbara Billingsley dies at 94.

ETA - Aw shit. I looked for a thread, I swear. Just saw it. Mods, do what you will.

Joe

Merged duplicate threads and added info to thread title.

In the deathpool thread, Poster Fear Itself has informed that June actually says it.

That’s just as funny. but chances are she said “looking for the Beaver”

“Cut me some slack, Jack!”

Oh yes, she’ll be sorely missed. It’s a rare celebrity who can live that long and be so beloved to the very end.

From the cnn.com article:

I wonder if we’ll ever again have both of those simultaneously.
