Irony: Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs
There’s a thread here I just read about the irony of the beautiful aesthetics of the iPhone being covered up by a protective cover.
I was using the bathroom the other day and noticed a person flushing the urinal with his elbow. I find it ironic that the person was flushing the urinal to avoid germs from getting on his hands; he washed his hands with soap and water; thereby leaving the bathroom with germs that he could have avoided if he flushed with his hands in the first place.
For me that was a . If you don’t want to wash your hands that’s fine, but it just seemed silly to me that he was flushing with something that wasn’t going to get washed.
Any other examples where someones actions don’t really work for the purpose they were trying achieve?
I have another one that I think is funny… I think it’s very kind of you to stop and let me into traffic; but if there’s no one behind you; you’re not really doing me a favor.
