Oh yeah, no more glasses for me!

I spent the afternoon at TLC (The Laser Center) in Milpitas (the first TLC in all of Northern California), having my eyes poked, prodded, looked at, and otherwise inspected to see whether they were candidates for laser eye surgery. The results? I passed! Yay! My corneas are on the thinner side but well within the acceptable range. I want to wait until my flex-spending plan kicks in at work for 2001 (I set aside $X pre-tax for use in medical stuff), so the lady put me down for January 3!!! Ayeee! Now I’m nervous and anxious!!

I could go with an el-cheapo clinic… even with my vision plan it’s still $1,800 PER EYE… but damnit, it’s my EYES; I’m not taking any risks by going to some fly-by-night operation. I want to go to a reputable center with a lifetime warranty on their procedures. Yah?

so, you went Lasik, eh?
I’ve been stuck with astigmatism and nearsightedness for about 4 years now, sucks, I say.
anything’s gotta be better than glasses… or contacts…
anyhow, have fun with your new eyesÏ

Please, please let me know how it works out! I so want to do this too, but I’m just so nervous about anything to do with my eyes…

Looking forward to hearing about your progress  Good luck!

baglady and others…

If you want info/stories from someone who went through it, I know MaxTorque had a thread around here somewhere when he got his done, or you could email him.

Just had Lasik performed last week…
Cool.
…now I no longer walk up to stop signs and introduce myself.
As for the actual surgery, it is over relatively quickly…there is some discomfort when they prop your eyelids open
but no pain at all. Then, when it’s over, you can see!
By the way Baglady, Lasik is constantly getting cheaper by the minute, due to more and more competition. My surgery was only $750.00 per eye (at the Laser Eye Center) and they are running specials all the time, so hopefully, by the time you go in, it’ll be quite affordable.
Good Luck!

I’m pencilled in for January 4 for exactly the same reason. Please contact me immediately if they screw yours up so that I can cancel!

My approach has been to tell myself over and over again that I am really looking forward to it, and deny the fact that the idea gives me the willies pretty bad. Everything I’ve heard is that the process isn’t bad at all, though.

Good luck!
