FarTreker, I’m so glad to hear that you love kitties too!
Whammo, we’re all praying for you and Max. Thanks ever so much for keeping us informed.

I’m glad Max is on the mend. Our cats are indoor cats for that very reason, not to mention cretins out there that target cats on purpose.
I haven’t posted before now, because the night before I saw it, we lost a kitten. It was a stray, but pretty and personable. It followed my daughter when she went to lock up the car (unbeknownst to her; it was mostly black, and it was dark). It’s curiosity did it in. She didn’t realize it was trying to get in the car, when she slammed the door after locking it. On the kittens’ head.
Fortunately, it didn’t suffer, but it did bleed profusely from the mouth, and my daughter thought it was still alive, because of the thready heartbeat. it wasn’t breathing, and the heart stopped a minute later.
Sigh. After consoling the kids, I went out and buried the little guy.
damn. that sucked, big time.
I know, hon. Give the girls another hug from me tonight, dear. And, an extra one for you.

Max is lucky to have “parents” who love him so much.
Sending good thoughts to all of you.
If your cat hasn’t passed any feces yet, check him for the presence of any in his gut. You’ll feel it as ‘lumpy little sausage shapes’ under your finger tips. He might not have enough food in him yet to pass. You don’t have to press hard either.
Walmart sells a hair ball preventative for cats in malt or salmon flavor. My cat loves it but not all cats do and there are instructions on how to administer it if yours doesn’t. You can check with your vet before using it or ask him about stool softeners. You can ask him about those presser pills also – they’re used for humans too.
I changed my cat from hard food to canned after his accident – to help him go, and once I was sure, then I placed a little soft dry food down for him to snack on. BTW - the cat tries to go now and then, but fails. Eventually, it ‘falls’ out. Sometimes, he might not go for a day or two and his anus distends, but it always comes out. Some days, being constipated, he feels poorly and is off his feed, so I give him a big dose of the laxative and after he goes, he’s back to normal.
His accident happened over 5 years ago and his good days are far more than his bad and he’s happy and not in pain. He spends his time on my lap when I’m watching TV, curled up by my pillow when I’m in bed, nesting in the laundry basket of clean cloths from the dryer or sunning himself in the window above my bed.
Sure, he ‘leaks’ now and then from the laxative and I have to wipe up little spots, change a sheet or rewash a towel or pillowcase, but he can’t help it and at least he’s alive.
After all, we’d do it for people, so why not cats we love?
I hope your cat makes a full recovery. Pet and cuddle him a lot to help him along.
Whammo: I’ve been following this thread since you started it, and I’m glad to hear that Max is recovering. I’ve been keeping you and Max in prayer. I hope he survives and thrives. I have 2 dogs and I know my life would be drab without them. G-d speed health and comfort to you both.

[sup]Since he’s about 1/3 shorter, have you considered renaming him “Ma”?

I have five cats. The OP, among other things, is why I never let them outdoors. Three of them, I rescued from the terrors of the outdoors. Our youngest one was literally small enough to sit in the palm of my hand when I found her, way too small to be outdoors. One of my other rescued cats was severely malnourished, skinny and almost hairless when I found her. She has gotten all fat, healthy and hairy since.
I hope kitty makes a full recovery. Let us know.
A couple of days ago he was 60% full… but it was soft. Tomorrow he goes in for an enima
He’s either been at the vets or has been to the vets everyday since the accident a week ago. He’s under the best and constant care.
His personality is back… he’s more loving then he’s ever been… he just seems to be getting healthier and healthier…
And still… I’m going to have to have him killed…
The vet said that 5 or 7 more days would be the maximum…if he hasn’t gotten better by then… he won’t…
I’m resigning myself to the fact that in a week max won’t be with me… I’ts becoming more apperant every day…
Oh Whammo, I’m so sorry… {{Whammo}}
After all you’ve been through, it would be a shame if it ended like that. Please try to be optimistic. Max has improved since the accident a week ago. Who knows how much more progress he could make in another week?
Has he been able to void his urine by himself? If so, then the feces will ‘force’ itself out. The bladder is the area to be more worried about.
I hope he gets better and you don’t have to have him put to sleep.
Whammo, I feel for you. We are planning to put our dog to sleep over Labor Day weekend. I don’t know how we’re going to get through it.
Hang in there. Maybe things will turn around; if not, you know that you did everything possible for Max and he loves you for it.
Oh, Whammo, I just got back after two hectic weeks and this was the first thread I saw. I cannot tell you how sorry and scared I am for you and Max. My Minx getting hit by a car is my worst nightmare - I can only imagine what you are going through right now.
I hope for both your sakes that your Max shows some dramatic improvement over the weekend. I’ll keep a candle lit for him.

Keep us updated.
Oh Whammo! I hope it doesn’t come to that; I’ve had to put pets to sleep more than once, and it isn’t fun. I’ll be praying doubly hard for you guys. And please except my apologies; I went back over the thread, and it appears I hijacked you.
I am praying you won’t have to Whammo. I know all too well how hard it is to do, even when it’s the best thing for your beloved pet. Thank you so much for keeping us informed.

im sorry too, whammo. your love for max is very apparent and very touching. the pain you so obviously feel is felt in some small way as well by all of us who have responded to your post, cuz we love our kitties, too. i only hope that our concern and sympathy can help, a little. love to max.
Whammo,I hope you don’t have to do it, but if you do try and feel that this last act would be one of the most loving. You have done everything you can, remember that. Damn, I’m crying, because I’m thinking of my cat Baby. It’s been 15 months, I have two new cats, but I still get teary over him. Please keep us posted.
Whammo-
I missed this thread until now. I know how you feel, and I am so glad that Max is feeling better.
I lost my mom and brother a year apart to cancer, and in the middle I had to have my two oldest cats put to sleep. I still miss them, I still mourn them along with my people family members.
I hope that Max returns to complete health and happiness real soon, and I will be praying for that to happen.

Wonderful news, Whammo! When I first read this thread I wanted to cry, picturing my own three little angels (Kate, Jacqlyn and Ysabel) in Max’s place. I’m so glad he’s getting better. I’m not a very religious person, but your little kitty is in my thoughts and I hope for a speedy, complete recovery. And Max is a very very lucky kitty to have owers like you and your GF.
