Ohio Republicans warning about the insidious effects that big money special interests might have on voters is a delightful piece of irony.
And complaining that the election was scheduled too soon - they’re the ones who picked the Aug. 8 date. Idjits: State Issue 1 is ‘probably’ coming back in the future, Ohio Senate president says - cleveland.com
I love the part of that where he says that big money interests will also try to thwart the will of the people about redistricting and minimum wage.
Yup, we’ve chosen to continue to have a choice in the structure of our founding document.
No, hypocrisy.
Why don’t Ohio Republicans just outlaw voting… full stop? Just eliminate the problem right at the source. If there is unrest about this, they can get the police or Ohio National Guard to “restore order” using whatever means necessary. And then blame out of state instigators, or BLM or Antifa, or shape-shifting Lizard people or whatever.
I mean, that’s where things are heading as far as I can see.
One reason could be that Trump’s current woes are demonstrating that the power to be absolutely believed by a specific segment of the population only goes so far.
If Ohio manages to pass an abortion rights amendment you’ll never see Issue 1 again, because the Republicans will suddenly realize how wise it is to require only a bare majority to repeal it.
My understanding is that Issue 1 only applied to citizens initiatives. Ballot measures proposed by the legislature still had only a 50% + 1 requirement to pass. However, if my understanding is wrong, they could put Issue 1 and a repeal on the ballot at the same time. Both would require only 50%+1 to pass but would slam the door for future initiatives.
An effort to keep Ohio voters from being heard on abortion rights has failed.
dtilque, Issue 1, had it passed, would have applied to both General Assembly-initiated referenda and citizen-initiated ones. But the Republican supermajority in the state legislature can get the ball rolling much more easily than the citizenry, in any event.
So? What’s happening?
Thanks!
Yes. People support limits on abortions= more or less like the Dems wants. But not a ban.
Dumping Roe was a huge GOP error.
And oddly the only promise trump kept.
