Well the prawn sandwiches won out over proper fans yet again.
When faced with the choice between a sterile but ruthlessly efficient tournament in those football hotbeds Switzerland and Austria or; The second oldest football nation on earth together with world cup quarter finalists with passionate and enthusiastic fans, guess what won out?
The prawns are obvioulsly better in Switzerland.
It is an unusual position for me to be wanting the Irish to get this tournamnet but if even I can seen the possibilities that this bid offered then surely UEFA can too?
Yes the presentation was a shambles, Yes the Irish are a weak link in stadium terms(which they would have sorted out) but these people care about football.
Bloody UEFA. Bloody TV companies. Bloody Corporate sponsors.
And of course it has nothing to do with the fact that if you are anything like me you were thinking “wow if its scotland and ireland i’ll be able to go and see a few games!”
Decision didn’t bother me at all. It wasn’t that long ago that the Championships were in England; I imagine a lot of the delegates were unconvinced that it should go to countries so close so soon.
I agree with Twisty. They were always going to choose Switzerland and Austria. I think they even said that they’d always been planning to have it the championship a central European country/countries, which makes you wonder what was the point of anyone non CE bothering.
Damn. We Aberdeen fans were hoping on that Scots-Irish UEFA ticket, so we could get funding for “New Pittodrie.” I guess it’s another 100 years playing next to the graveyard, then.
I know, you say this now, but after 2004, you will welcome the sheer clockwork-like efficiency of those guys. UEFA will need a break after the last minute panicking, disorganized inefficiency of 2004.
