OK Canadians, I need a recipe for Butter Tarts

I know I can google it. But I don’t want to spend my oh-so-precious Christmas Baking Time on a substandard recipe. I’ve never made them, never even tasted one. But you all have convinced me they are to die for, so cough up your great-great-great-Canuck-Grandmother’s Secret Butter Tart Recipe, because my Canuck Grandma never made 'em.

Butter Tarts

Make pastry and put into tart shells. The important part is that they need to be the tiny shells. Into the uncooked shells pour a mixture of:

1/4 cup melted butter
1 cup raisins or currents
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs slightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla

Bake at 350 until a knife comes out clean when inserted into the center.

Since I hate fuss’n with pastry I’m going to try this recipe for butter tart squares.

**Ginger ** gave a recipe in this thread.

Cunctator beat me to it. I usually cut back the sugar some or my teeth fall out.

My mother always puts chopped walnuts or pecans in her butter tarts with the raisins. They help cut some of the sweetness, and add a nice flavour.

Dammit people, stop giving me baking ideas!! I ran out of flour and butter 5 days ago and I’m too flu-ey to go to the store. Want tarts now.

Oh hell yes. IMHO, butter tarts are just wrong without walnuts.

I also must add that around here, this very year, we have instituted the tradition of calling them “Butter Farts”.

The milk in your recipe sounds interesting, I may have to try it. Mine is just the one that was handed down.
