OK, Graffitti "Artists" and "Taggers" - I'm Calling You Out!

Yeah, I have seen a little tagging. I have a “tag”, but I do not spraypaint anything that isn’t mine unless I have permission to. I am a regular artist too, and use my tag as a signature for my work. I believe if a community really wants to stop graffiti on public places, they should dedicate a wall or other stucture. I know this sounds counter-productive, but if people knew that they wouldn’t get in trouble for spray-painting a certain area, they would choose tho do it there instead of on some bridge. Looking around my town, there are a lot of empty blank drab walls that scream out for color and vibrance. Just my little perspective…

::: hangs his/her head in shame puts away the graff stick :::

Yer bloody right. I am very uneducated. And poor. And I suffer from blind ambition to a fault. God I hope NOT!

Our city council fought this problem by inviting high school/university art classes to paint murals on the problem walls. Granted, we are a relatively small community but but we had graffitti problems nontheless.

Of the 15+ murals painted in the last three years, I have yet to see the graffitti reappear. On the plus side, we have some stunning artwork to break the monotony when we are stuck in traffic.

It just may be that even the lowlifes with a spray bomb can take a little pride if you give them a reason.
