OK, how did this happen?

In the ‘need a name change’ thread here in ATMB, I did my usual stunt of making inane unsolicited suggestions (even though the OP has already decided).

My post is the last one appearing in the thread, but the thread index says the last post was by someone with the username Play Unicorn Leapfrog; what is really strange is that clicking on Play Unicorn Leapfrog’s name takes you to MY user profile.

The unicorn dude may have been a spambot/troller, and had all his posts deleted. I remember a juciysomething, who was a spambot that had all it’s posts deleted. The deletion would not reflect on the last posters on the page, but when you click on the page to go to the profile of the last poster it would reflect more accurately.

Please read the sticky regarding this sort of comment.

So, you are saying that you are, in fact, upset that someone took AtomicBadgerRacing and never did anything with it.

Admit it.

As to the OP, I have no idea.

Which one?

Seriously, there’s four of them up there and the F.A.Q. threads are really long. The titles ain’t helping, neither.

A link might.

A more relevant link for the OP

The DNFTT FAQ Q.E.D. is speaking of

I think his question had more to do with how the board indexes the threads, rather than the nature of the poster.

Actually, I did mean the announcement that NoClueBoy first mentioned. Though both links are relevant.

I’ve had this happen to me because of being the object of a certain troll’s attention. I’ve noticed that the deleted poster’s name stays there, linking to the last previous post (mine), until someone else posts.

As for the whys of this example of board mechanics, I have No Clue.

You have my sincerest apologies.

I was looking at the “stickies” and not the “announcement.”

I’m too literal-minded for my own good, sometimes.

Eh, no biggie. Probably should have linked, but I was feeling lazy at the time.

Yes, unfortunately, the deleted jerk’s name is left on the threads. We had a spammer a few weeks back, you might recall, who posted the same “Buy my product!” spam in about three dozen different threads. We mass deleted them, but his name stayed on the threads as the “last poster” until they faded into the sunset.

I think the name “troll” is too polite. I prefer “jerk”, “moron”, “mush-for-brains”, or “brat.”

How about “coprophage.”

I like that one.

It is an attitude like this which makes your “Junior Mod” status questionable. at best.

Thanks, this explains the wrong name (I notice there’s another one there now), but why does clicking on the wrong name bring up MY profile page?

If you hover over the name of the listed last poster in the thread listing it will say something like:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/member.php? action=getinfo&find=lastposter&threadid=193921. The script will retrieve the info for the last poster who is actually in the database, rather than the listed last poster, since it doesn’t look it up by username.

Ah, thanks.
