Answer: Yes.

Answer: Yes.
First of all, I don’t have a problem with Kerry (or anyone else) changing their position on an issue when they get more information.
Secondly, I don’t know if Bush has changed his position on the Texas bill or not. It doesn’t make a difference.
My original “Are you a hypocrite” quote works just fine. I was not speaking in regard to Bush…it was an obvious hypothetical.
But, to play your game:
If John Doe shoplifted last week, and doesn’t see anything wrong with shoplifting, but then he tells someone that shoplifting is wrong, he IS a hypocrite.
If John Doe shoplifted last week, and has since seen the error of his ways, and no longer shoplifts, and believes it now to be wrong, and he tells someone that shoplifting is wrong, he is NOT a hypocrite.
Hypocrisy is a pretty straightforward word, but far too easy (and admittedly fun) to throw around erroneously.
Don’t ask me about Irony, though. I’m pretty sure I’ve never once used it correctly…
Then I appologize. I don’t either, and have changed my views many times as I have aged (I’d say matured, but might get an argument from those that know me best). I just got so tired of hearing “flip-flop” during the last election for evolving views that you hit a hot button. I don’t know you well enough to make that accusation of you. It won’t happen again.
Holy shit. How can anyone support this man? How can anyone defend him on this one? He will pull the plug because they can’t pay, but he won’t pull the plug to advance his political agenda and back up his brother’s play. Fuck me with a hot poker, this guy is fucking nuts. I did not read the whole thread yet, but if someone responded to this one and defended Bush, I… er… I… I just might lose hope for humanity.
Holy, fucking shit, Batman! This is not me defending him. You should get the whole story, which is in the tread. I am not good enough at this posting and linking stuff to tie it back, sorry.
On review, it may be in one of the other Schiavo threads.
Well, it was idle speculation on my part-and identified as such. This is not a defense (because I feel none is neccessary) but here is some of my thought process.
How did I come to have such a notion? By their behavior–they seem to lack the maturity to defer gratification and also seem to have no problem with circumventing the law. I refer, of course, to their well publized under age drinking. Now, it is true that breaking one law does not destroy a character.
I dont’ think that having a abortion would destroy a character, either. I am pro-choice.
I am just interested in the possible contradictions here–these do not strike me as “good Christian” girls as is vaunted by the “Christian” right.
I have no idea where they are on the spiritual path and really, that’s none of my business.
Call me cynical, but I cannot see (if either of them would become pregnant) being lauded as an example of the Right’s values etc. Anyone remember Murphy Brown and Dan Quayle etc? I would say that if one of them “falls from grace”, that the situation would be taken care very privately and quickly.
I actually find nothing wrong with that either–a woman’s choice is hers to make–and need not be public. Pardon me, though, if I refuse to deny the inherent hypocrisy in the position, IF it ever occurred.
Terribly sorry for the hijack–I’m on vaca now, so I’m out of here for a few.
I bow to no man or woman in my disgust for the despicable George Bush, but the “pull the plug if they can’t pay” is (fortunately) inaccurate. Starting at about post #167 in this thread is a side discussion of the Texas law.
Have a nice vacation. I’d like to reiterate my appreciation for your very knowledgeable and helpful posts in lo!, these many threads.
Thanks for straightening that out.
