I heard his speech at the SC funeral service today, and the President’s language and passion has convinced me he’s a genuine Christian.
A little sad a realization for me – I had hoped he was a closeted atheist.

These sneaky Muslims will do anything to fool you.
He can sing, too!
I just wish I hadn’t heard him sing under these circumstances.
If you can call that singing. What I heard was almost bad enough for him to be Catholic, though it was much louder.
It’s the long con.
I still think he’s a closet atheist.
But yea, his speech writer is a Christian for sure.
My understanding is that Obama wrote that eulogy himself. He still could be an atheist, though. He could be an atheist who knows that effective writing requires a solid sense of audience.
OMG! That was exactly the same reaction I had earlier today.
Does it really matter what the POTUS is?
This here.
Yes, but, how many politicians would actually go to that much trouble?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I slay me.
Dunno, ask the conservatives who think he’s Muslim.
This is a great take on the eulogy by Hemant Mehta, aka The Friendly Atheist.

Of course it does. Remember how we had a Roman Catholic president in the 60’s, and now we all swear our eternal allegiance to the Pope every morning?
Obama is often a powerful speaker. The eulogy was an example of his skill.
I loved it. (Well, as much as one can love a eulogy.)
I actually hope he continues to embrace his lameduckiness and give more speeches that actually inspire, critics be danged.
He doesn’t *need *to be a Christian anymore; he doesn’t *need *to be afraid of coming off too black anymore; he doesn’t *need *to tone down his progressive ideas any more. I hope every speech he does now is just the true Barack Obama. I feel like this speech/eulogy nailed it. He’s a Christian, he’s black, he’s socially progressive. *That *inspires. Triangulation? Worrying about what critics and conservatives will do? Not so much.
The LaVeyan Satanists are also pissed: they were sure he is a closet Devil-worshipper.
Nicely played!
But yes, it was the right speech in the right context to the right audience and he even said so holding up the role of the black churches as centers of activism and community building as part of the common thread.
Ok, people: what good is a closeted atheist? Show me a little of the thought process.
Because there has got to be more than “an intelligent person I find likeable has to be one of us” or even “this intelligent, likeable person: we want to claim him”. Or is it the expectation that if he were a real believer he would be imposing his faith on the rest of us at every turn? Because on that last basis then I’d have to presume a majority of the men to have held the office would meet the “closet atheist” test.
After I finished wiping the tears away the above is pretty much what ran through my mind.
We saw a flash of this back when he said this:
That picture is a wonderful summation of the American melting pot: shows that black people, white people and orange people can reach the highest seats in government.
