Ok, Kim Jong Un, you stupid son of a bitch

One of his older brothers was a screw-up and currently lives in exile in Macau. There was speculation that his aunt and uncle would serve as regents behind the scenes. Is it just me or is Kim Jong-un just an older, fatter version of Joffrey Baratheon?

He attended a private school in Switzerland, posing as the Nork Korean Ambassador’s son. He went to Kim Il-sung University and Kim Il-Sung Military Academy.

Nothing new here…just another effort to get us to give the little shit some oil and food. I say, ignore him.

It’s about the sanctions, not oil and food. I don’t think the U.S. has given North Korea any food in a year.

You seem like a fucking idiot who thinks “libertarian” means “anything I personally disagree with.”

Libertarian generally means not smart enough to understand the complexity of the real world.

As I understand it, the conventional diplomatic wisdom is that the North Korean regime wants the rest of the world to think they are crazy, because if we think they are crazy we will leave them alone for fear they might do something truly rash and destructive, even if it so self-destructive that no sane government, no matter how evil, would ever do it (perhaps nuke Seoul, just a few miles from their border). The regime is actually crazy like a fox. They have survived in power an awful long time, after all, given the incredible fuck-up they have made of the country itself. It is a whole new twist on the MAD doctrine.

Pretty bold of you to say that after showing yourself to be a complete idiot in a recent GD thread, not understanding a simple point I made (just for a recent example of your rampant stupidity).

Start your own pit thread Randy, quit thread shitting in this one.

To give an idea of the actual military capabilities of North Korea, as opposed to their claimed capabilities, I’ll point to their navy. They have a fleet of 708 vessels, which sounds impressive. But then you note that the fleet is divided into an East Sea Command and a West Sea Command - that’s because none of their ships can travel more than a few dozen miles out to sea, so they can’t travel from one coast of North Korea to the other.

Let’s see…

Bases from which we can launch and recover drones, fighters, fight/bombers, cargo (incl C-5), tactical and strategic bombers, all within range of DPRK:
South Korea
Japan
Afghanistan.
I suspect another one or two, can’t recall

Types of craft operable from carrier: Fighters, Helicopters. light fighter/bomber, drone.

Which ones can be sunk by a $1 million missiles?

You might still find a use for those obscenely expensive missile/torpedo magnets, but the Korean peninsula ain’t one of them.
(p.s. - you can get 10 planes airborne from a land base in the time it takes to get maybe 3 or 4 carrier based those catapults don’t reset instantly. Land planes only need to keep out of the exhaust heat.

If the info on 38north org is correct, he has taken several important (read: hard money generating) businesses from the Army. And had one of the top generals executed by mortar round. He has removed many of his “protectors” put in place by his father to keep him safe.
If he can purge the military at least twice in his first year, then it is probably not the military calling the shots (although the intensified saber-rattling may be a gesture to appease the military and keep them going along).
The best guess for puppet master (if any) is an uncle

You mean Nixon’s “Madman” routine? Maybe the proper response to the next noise is to place all US forces on highest level alert world-wide and launch strategic bombers with armed nukes to circle South Korea for a day or two.
Show the twit who is the bigger loon?

Nitpick: No not instantly, but there are four of them. A modern carrier can effectively continuously launch planes. Or launch in pairs about a minute apart. Reset time on the cat shuttle itself is less than a minute. About a minute more to hook up the plane and dial in the pressure.

Ok, ok, we’ve had the ‘carrier = obsolete’ argument and done it to death.

I just keep hoping that someday, the response to North Korea comes down to two words: “Fuck Off”. And I mean that literally.

And at some point, I hope we tell the Chinese to fuck off with constantly telling everyone not to do anything to raise tensions, but then looking in the other direction and doing nothing at every North Korean provocation.

 I like the part where you get on me for threadshitting and say absolutely nothing to Lobohan or Marley23.

This is NK’s response to more sactions from the UNSC. Here’s what I don’t get: MORE sanctions?! Why weren’t they already set to max? What the hell else are we holding back?! How is it possible that we haven’t dialed it up to 11 yet?

Really? Did they just shove it up his ass and detonate it, or shoot it at normally? That’s the kind of outside the box effort that makes you stand out as a tyrannical madman.

Seriously. Makes me have just a tinge of affection for the little shit. I appreciate creativity - even in madmen.

I doubt we would use nukes on North Korea because the fallout would head toward Japan. Where would the fallout of a Korean nuclear war go? - Factual Questions - Straight Dope Message Board

I also doubt that China will stop propping up North Korea. It is useful to them in many ways. 1) It takes some of the human rights heat off of China and makes them seem like the reasonable one. 2) They prefer a puppet state on their border to a genuine democracy. 3) Dealing with all those refugees or installing a new regime/infrastructure would be too expensive.

I was commenting on what sounded like an isolationist strain in SirGalahad’s comments. Also-
