OK, Liberal, fess up...the over-the-top Obama love is a put on, isn't it?

Read. Learn.

Even Bricker accepts it.

He sure did.

The smiley doesn’t make this not stupid. It was a verbal typo that, even if it were true, would not establish what you are claiming.

It wasn’t even a verbal typo. In text, it would look like this:

Barack Obama: You’re absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about ‘my Muslim faith’.

Scare quotes, see? I.e., “You’re absolutely right that John McCain has not even made the spurious suggestion that I have a Muslim faith.” It’s clear that this was Obama’s meaning, given his response to the interviewer’s miscorrection.

(And, yeah, having Muslim faith does not imply being a Muslim terrorist.)

It doesn’t matter. Muslims are Christian anyway, according to Rand Rover.

So if I said, “I tried marijuana”, you would conclude that I was unsuccessful at smoking weed?

What about “I experimented with pot”? Would that imply he used a Bunsen burner?

No, if you said “I tried to smoke marijuana”, then I would assume you had failed for some reason. “I tried to walk” implies “I couldn’t walk”. “I tried walking” means you were successful in the attempt but had discontinued the effort for some reason.

Actually, it was, which is why the interviewer corrected him (and he accepted it).

This has become a faith-based argument, where evidence is going to be interpreted however it needs to be to support the assumptions. And I am not in the mood to argue with the moral equivalent of creationists just now.

Have fun with your denial fest.

I for one wouldn’t believe that. Nobody could possibly be that big a loser.

“tried to do” is actually more blatantly lawyerly than what the meaning of “is” “is.”

Never in my 52 years have I “tried” to to do pot. I either did or didn’t – just like anyone else. OTOH, it would make much more apologetic sense, in the context of “I tried to do Panama Red”…to add that PR might not have been available ATM, thus I settled for some shitty swag instead. Then again, who’d trust a politician to give us the Straight Dope?

Coke? I think I know one or two people that were able to keep it under control. And that’s out of 15 to 20 friends that weren’t capable of same – self included for an extremely short yet very intense, two week period. Thus I’d say it’d be wise to keep blow (in any form) out of The WH.

Should all drugs be legal? Dunno. I struggle with that one listening to both sides and I’m still undecided.

Pot, for me, doesn’t even enter the equation. The only reason it isn’t is due to plain old economics and the enormous resulting capacity to buy Gov officials – DEA on up.

But that is not what Bush said:

Not “tried to do”. He said “what I tried”. Which was marijuana. He tried marijuana, and succeeded.

Didn’t like pot. Coke, OK, pretty much. But liquid stupid? Oh, my yes. Figures.
