Ok, now I'm getting concerned about the LHC

British bookie calculates that the odds of the LHC destroying the world are exactly a million to one.

The part that worries me is that million to one shots come up nine times out of ten. I can just see the cabal of mad scientists at CERN grouped around the on switch for the thing. “The chances of this destroying the world are a million to one!” one of them will say.

“But it just might work,” another will finish.

Hold me. :frowning:

Nothing personal, but if the world’s really going to end, there’s a LONG list of people I’d rather hold.

Just think, though! If we destroy the world, that’s saying something. Especially if we create a vacuum bubble that could potentially destroy the universe. Certainly a pretty epic end for the race, in my opinion :D.

It’s a Discworld reference.

Phew! * wipes brow *

I saw one of those 20/20 Primetime Live/Dateline shows about how the world could end, and I gotta say getting instantaneously sucked into a black hole sounds a heck of a lot better than most of the scenarios they described. I don’t want a gamma ray to burn out my eyeballs!

‘Calculates the odds’ is a bit of a bad description. ‘British bookie picks a big number’ is more like it.

What? You’re telling me that bookies aren’t trained in quantum particle physics?
