Ack!
An excavation contractor I hired to re-grade my backyard just tore up the sprinkler line for my aerobic treatment plant. I know absolutely nothing about the thing, other then where the tanks are, where the sprinklers are, and where the control box is.
Anyone know if it’s OK to turn off the breaker for the system for a bit (24 hours, max) while I fix the line?
More generally, anyone know where I can get more information on how these things work? I tried calling the number for the contractor that installed it, but they seem to have gone under.
Well.
After talking to some excavation contractors, findout out who manufactured my system, and speaking to them, manuals are on the way, and I learned that it’s OK to turn off aerobic plants.
However, if you turn them off too long (“Too long” depends on usage), the water level may get too and the high-level alarm buzzer will sound. At that point, it may rise up to the chlorinator and dissolve all the tablets (killing the bacteria) and after that it may start overflowing in the house.
So you can turn it off, but you can’t turn it off too long.
I also learned how to repair PVC today.
Yes, I’m responding to myself, but who knows, maybe someone will search for the topic in a few years.
