OK, what is the Woodpecker EM Grid?

Every once in a while there is a lone nut out there with a crazy wild theory or set of theories. Example in this case is Tom Bearden at http://www.cheniere.org. He claims that the Soviets blew up the Challenger, and that Katrina was no accident due to controlled weather.

OK so the claims are out of this world. The curious conspiracy theorist in me says that the guy supposedly has a Ph. D. and should be intelligent. It also tells me that once upon a time someone decided the world was round and was probably scoffed at. Perhaps he’s on to something! The other 99% of me has decided to write him off as completely crazy.

I suppose I can’t do that though without knowing that his claims are false. So to the dopers:

What’s up with his claim about extracting energy from ‘the vaccum’. What does he mean? Is is possible?

What really causes the grid like cloud pattern in the sky?

He makes a lot of verifyable claims on his site. Any truth/fiction there that someone can confirm?

Run-of-the-mill kookery, if you don’t mind me being so dismissive. This is hardly rare.

Being crazy and having a Ph.D. aren’t mutually exclusive. And people laughed at Bozo the Clown, too.

Well, you can. Sometimes, the claims are so absurd they don’t need to be debunked so much as laughed at.

He’s talking about zero-point energy, a common hobby-horse for nutters. It isn’t possible to get free energy from the vacuum.

Jets flying by, most likely.
