Just another update, the snap trap I set in the garage did catch the small blackish mouse by BIL reported seeing. We were not sure if we could believe him, do to the fact that he took 50 percocet, 50 vicodin, and a whole mess of motrin and tylenol in a 7 day period following his ACL replacement. Alas he was not hallucinating.
Well we never did find out what pooped in the laundry room, but we have moved since and that resolved the issue.
This thread (zombie though it may be) illustrates much that is great about the SDMB.

I’m seconding raccoon: recently went onto the roof to adjust the satellite dish and discovered that the neighborhood raccoons have taken to using the lee of our chimney as a rest stop. Like, all of the neighborhood raccoons. Needless to say, plenty of samples to inspect!
