It is riiiiight on the West edge of Clarendon. Ballston Metro is walkable given 20 minutes, Rosslyn Metro is busable. I drove and walked around and I really like the area – the apartment is in a quiet place, and yet Ballston Common is very accessible.
Does the deal sound reasonable based on what I give you? I’ll give what other details I can that you think will help.
Something that is better money-wise: I’ve found another efficiency near Columbia Heights for about $750, which, plus utilities, would come to about $800. This apartment may have a dishwasher, and is 488 square feet. So, it’s cheap, but something tells me that it’s cheap for a reason. It’s also pretty far from any Metro station that I can see. I’m seeing it tomorrow.
I dunno. There’s got to be a better deal around. I’m right off the Ballston Metro stop and we have a three bedroom townhouse for $1950 a month, which includes parking, dishwasher, free washing machine, and lots else.
I mean, you’re in a good area (and I think the Clarendon Metro stop or Virginia Square Metro stop might be closer than Ballston or Rosslyn), but I think $863 is a bit steep for what you are getting.
I would check around for better. Columbia Heights isn’t a terrible neighborhood, although I’ve never lived there, only wandered around at night a few times.
I mean, it’s not a terrible deal, but there’s probably better.
Certainly a decent deal, but nothing spectacular. I’ve seen “efficiency” deals run between 450 (we’re talking the bad areas in Southeast DC) and about … 900 for high-quality areas.
I have an efficiency in Alexandria for about $750. It’s on the 16th floor with a great view of DC, but it’s basically my old dorm room with a kitchen and bath…
I saw an ad for a studio apt. in Arlington, Columbia Blvd., for around $600. Clarendon’s a real up-and-coming neighborhood, though, and the price you mentioned isn’t out of line with the local market.
I live north of Columbia Heights in DC (16th & Military). My rent is $735 for a 550 sq ft apartment including utilities and off-street parking. It is a good deal, but not super close to the trains, so if you are anti-bus, and don’t want to drive to work, it isn’t the best location. It is an Ok neighborhood, not the best, but not worrisome - at least not for me.
There are better financial deals out there, but if you want to live in Clarendon - then you have to decide if it is worth the extra money
