Okay, honey, now that you're actually raping her, SAY CHEESE!

They’ve given very little information about the “female relative.” I wonder if it’s their daughter.

Lovely.

Well thats about the most fucked up thing I’ve seen in a loooooong time.

I hope they burn.

Actually, I’m guessing it’s probably a niece or similar who lives with them.

That is just fucking vile.

[hijack] I wonder how long it will take before someone pops in with a redneck/incest joke.[/hijack]

That is awful. I can’t even imagine what they were thinking.

As do I- if they did it. Can we bear in mind, that despite the hideous severity of the charges, nothing has at this time been proved?

Now, I am not suggesting that this is necessarily the case, but if the allegations are proven unfounded then have we done damage to the accused?

If they did do it, they ought to be punished to the full extent of the law.

Personally, I am going to withhold judgement.

What are they putting in the water there? One of the sidebars was a university student who gnawed off the ear of another!

I’m also a little perturbed that they aren’t behind bars because of health reasons. I sure hope that the PD is doing everything possible and then some to make sure that these two don’t flee before their day in court.

I’ve been down in Kentucky a few times visiting my ex. There really isn’t much to DO around there.

My guess is no - only a guess, though. I think if it was their daughter, they’d be more inclined to say so. Wouldn’t they?

I used to live not so far from there (Carlisle county) and yes, it was boring. I’ve gotta say I never heard of anything like that though!

Shit, that’s horrible.

Regards.

Testy

If nothing else, the charges would be different (or more): incest, child abuse, etc., would also be in the mix.

Sua

They’re being very vague on the identity of the relative. And since the victim is now 19, can they charge them with child abuse?

Damn. Sometimes I hate being from KY.

People like that need to be shot. Plain and simple.

I’m with Unwritten Nocturne: I’m holding back on accepting this at face value. The accusation is so groteque, it reminds me of the McMartin daycare sex-abuse scandal from a few years back, or the recovered memory hysteria, all of which proved to be unfounded. At this point, it’s just the girl’s word: there’s no mention of the police finding any evidence yet. Occam’s Razor: is it more likely that this couple is really a pair of serial rapists who conspired to abuse this girl for six years, with photos? How do serial rapists meet one another, anyway? How do you broach this subject to your spouse? Or is it more likely that the girl has some severe emotional problems and is deluded or lying?

The wife was supposed to have taken all those photos. There must be hundreds and hundreds of them. If they show up, case closed. But if the cops can’t find any evidence for them, that’ll be pretty significant, too.

What matters is how old she was when the crime was committed, not how old she is when the charges are brought.

Miller On that note I have started a thread here

Nothing has been formally proved in a court of law, where the “innocent until proven guilty” standard for Anglo-American criminal jurisprudence applies.

But judging from the “568 counts of rape”, and the discussion of photos, it sounds as if the investigators have at least that many photos. Not only is that a rather specific large number, but I can’t see why they would have mentioned the photos to the press unless the investigators had the photos, rather than just the victim’s word that they existed.

RTFirefly: I didn’t see anything in the link to indicate that any photos had been found, only that the wife had been accused of taking them. I think if they had 500+ photos of graphic sexual child abuse, that would have been in the headline.

I don’t know which is more likely, but plenty of serial rapists have found each other: Paul Bernardo and Karla Holmoko, the Hillside Stranglers, Laurence Bittaker and Roy Norris, Paul and Rosemary West…the list goes on and on.
In a lot of cases involving nasty couples, it seems as if one partner is dominant. Would Myra Hindley, for example, ever have harmed another if she had never met Ian Brady?

If they believed the photos existed but didn’t yet have them, I doubt that they’d want to let that piece of info out; there’s too many ways it could go wrong. The couple (not yet in custody) could recover and destroy them; friends or relatives with a key could get into their house, find the pix, pass them around, or sell them on eBay; or they might not exist.

I could be wrong, certainly, but mentioning the photos without having them seems to be just begging for disaster on so many levels. I would hope and pray that, even in West Bumfuck, KY, the investigators are smart enough to realize that.
