Okay, is this completely out of line or is it just me ??

It was the impropriety of opening up a laptop at work and inviting the assembled crew to stand around his monitor and watch it that prompted my O.P. I wasn’t condemning people who watch it ( totally. okay. a little. but that’s me. ), but rather the fact that it was brought into the workplace.

And I don’t mean to fuel debate…

I found that video, and watched it. I knew I didn’t want to, and I wish I hadn’t, but it definitely lends perspective… we make prisoners jack-off, they cut their heads of with a knife…

“off” even…

Slightly off-topic, but what was the offensive joke that the Portland DJs made? Perhaps too strong for MPSIMS, but maybe a link to a news site with a better description?

caphis,
I don’t think it was any particular joke, but the whole combination of playing the video (er, audio, rather), and laughing/joking about it. Just astounding bad taste.

I wouldn’t see it, myself, but I know two fellow employees who had (not at work I believe). They don’t seem to be the voyeuristic type, so I have to assume they were simply curious. They were amazed at how brutal it was and how long it took before they were able to kill Berg.

I don’t want to see that film. I don’t want to see images of prisoners or anyone being tortured. I don’t want to see gore on the road after an accident. I don’t want to turn a blind eye to what happens in the world, but I don’t need to revel in it, either. I know horrible things happen; I just don’t want to see them. Does anybody really need to see images like that for any reason?

A lot of people actually believe that these things don’t happen.

For people like me, reading about them does nothing. I have to actually see it before I feel anything.

YMM, and does, V.

[hijack]Does anyone know of a website where I can read about Bud without getting any photos? Don’t wanna see it. Covers eyes[/hijack]

As for the OP, people should really be more aware. I am highly sensitive when it comes to violence or gore and tend to get really angry when people assume that I am not.

I remember my history teacher making me watch JFK in high school. The autopsy scene sent me flying from the room. I can’t TAKE that stuff. (And I actually briefly considered entering forensics. HAH! :o )
