Novak has probably been questioned and given up his source. However, it appears that there were multiple leakers. The person who leaked to Miller is not necessarily the person who leaked to Novak. (Conspiracy charges, anyone?)
Also, if the special prosecutor is going for perjury charges against an administration official then he needs corraboration. To prove perjury you need multiple witnesses.
Thank you for the explanation of what’s going on, Pochacco. It’s very hard to get info on this story, and I totally see it now. I formally retract my rhetoric in the OP.
The “Bush Machine”? Is everything you don’t like Bush’s fault? It was Judge Thomas Hogan that jailed Miller. Was he appointed by Bush? Is Bush blackmailing him somehow?
Yes. Frustratingly the way this story has been framed in the media makes it seem like the big news is that reporters are being forced to testify.
Uh no.
The big news is that someone in the White House broke the cover of a covert operative for political gain. The fact that Miller and Cooper are caught up in this is merely a sideshow.
For the record, Miller never wrote any article about Plame, which is why her going to jail stinks.
Bob Novak wrote the original article blowing Plame’s cover, and yet there is no record of his talking to a grand jury about his sources. If a prosecutor wanted to know who blew Plame’s cover, well, there’s one obvious guy to talk to.
But you end up throwing a reporter a jail because she accepted a phone call one day, never wrote about it, and doesn’t want to talk about it? That’s called a witch hunt. It’s like throwing Ben Stein in jail because Bob Woodward didn’t want to reveal that Mark Felt was Deep Throat.
