Old Ad: "Brave Men Wanted/Needed/Something to Explore Arctic"

I’m trying to find an old ad supposedly placed in a British newspaper around 1900 seeking men to go on an expedition to the arctic. It basically listed all the horrible things that could go wrong on the trip but, according to legend, attracted thousands of responses.

I thought the title of the ad was similar to the subject of this post, but all “Brave Men Needed” brings up in google is a buch of porn sites…

Urban legends are not new:

Weirdly, I located this because I remembered that J. B. Miller had done a parody of Shackleton’s book on the 1914-17 expedition in his collection, The Satanic Nurses.

Thank you.

Here a famous, real one:

“Wanted. Young, skinny, wiry fellows. Not over 18. Must be expert riders. Willing to risk death daily. Orphans preferred.”

It took me several reads to understand the question, because I kept misreading “artic” as “attic.” It does give it an interesting twist, though.
