Old computer games

In the Amstrad CPC version, you could Save the game in space, and when you reloaded, you’d be docked in the station.

I never abused this at all, oh no.

Lots of good candidates mentioned (Baldur’s Gate, Heroes of Might & Magic 2 and 3, Civilization/Colonization/Alpha Centauri), but my sentimental favourite is Warlords III: Darklords Rising. I love those campaigns and I love the narration.

Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe.

Partly for the game - so many different planes to play with! - and partly for the manual, large chunks of which were written by an actual historian, and included interviews with German and US WWII aces.

Han ! I wish I could find my Jane’s F-15 manual, for much the same reason. It was a pretty cool game, slow paced for a flight sim as much of the workload was spent dealing with 10.000 ways to blow shit up on the ground instead. Very relaxing, in a way. Well, outside of furballs - the Strike Eagle not being the most agile bird there is (especially when loaded with a dozen bombs) knife fights were hard !

Myth and Myth II were awesome. I totally forgot about those games. I’m a bit surprised they haven’t been remade yet- they’d totally work in the modern world as well.

I miss when PC Games gave you meaty manuals and sometimes other cool stuff like Maps of the game world or other things. Stuff like that made mediocre games look better in my eyes.

Some of my favorites like Ultima 7 and Master of Magic were already mentioned by others, so I’ll go with Gabriel Knight, Sins of the Father. I actually re-bought it a few years ago on GOG and still replay it from time to time. The art is still fantastic to this day, plus you got Tim Curry hamming it up, and the always great Mark Hamill as well.

Another excellent point and click adventure is Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. So many different routes you can go in that game.

Heart of China. I hadn’t thought of that for years.

I haven’t played it in years, but my favorite RPG for the longest time was Exodus: Ultima 3

I’m not a big gamer, but my roommate way back when had a computer, long before I got one of my own. The first game I played was Blake Stone, and when he went away for the weekend, I played for hours.

Then he got Doom. Also highly addictive.

Thief: The Dark Project was my favorite game. I loaded it up a few years ago and played through and have played all of the sequels. I loved the thieving and sneaking aspects of the game.

I still play Alpha Centauri and Master of Orion II from time to time. Master of Magic as well.

I’d never heard of this game, so I looked it up on Wikipedia. The last line in the article is pure tragedy, and also explains why I never played it:

“id Software released Doom one week after Apogee released Blake Stone. Doom quickly eclipsed Blake Stone, which sold poorly after initial success.”

I just noticed that the new Master of Orion game has been released. I’m gonna go see if it lives up to the legacy of the first two.

like I said before if you wait for a good GOG sale you can get about 90 percent of the 80’s 90’s and 2000’s best sellers theres still a hold out or two but …

Heck, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego gave you an actual full-blown world almanac.

Star Control 2

How do you play MOO2? Old machine dedicated to it?

And I forgot one, Railroad Tycoon, from some nobody named Sid something-or-other. Really loved that game.

that or use an emulator or buy it from www.gog.com where dos box is built into the game legally …

Save yourself some time. Stellaris is supposed to be very good however, and I can vouch for Endless Space. Galactic Civ II is also great (especially with the Arnor add-on) but quite unintuitive to master, dunno how III fares.
