I am stuffed. Church tomorrow.
Howdy Y’all! The memorial service was very nice. I served Chalice and did not spill it, so that’s a win. The reception was a big time sit down meal with a buffet. I did not know what some of the food I ate was, but it was good. I know for sure I had ox tails. One thing was fish in a spicy sauce. There was also a dish that had rice, okra and some kind of greens. Very tasty. I am very full. In other news, my Dawgs won big, but I knew that would happen.
I read all but am tahrd, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, and how you doin’s all around as needed.
Go, Ducks! What was with all the facemask not getting called?
Yeah, the one at the very end that wasn’t called was especially egregious, especially in a game where so many penalties were called. I don’t blame the player for becoming angry over that one. In the one replay I saw, it looked like one of the refs looked right at the violation, too. I don’t envy the refs, but come on!
This is what I love about being a RDOS, if the roads flood, we can stay home in our jammies and feel smug about not being out there anymore.
Fog is wild, once I was driving home in a low cloud and not only missed the same turn I had taken five days a week for 8 years, I got lost in the high school parking lot.
Thank you for your kind words, but I wish I could do more. If I had a billion dollars I could do so many great things, but alas I only have little bits of money to help my neighbors.
One of the cooking lessons I took to heart from my formative years is to always use the whole bottle of wine while cooking. Of course, the TV chef I learned from was Graham Kerr, but Mom liked watching his show while ironing.
Mom. Sigh. She’s had the same email address since yahoo was first came out. She can’t remember how to get to her account now and has asked that I mail her important things. Like the list of stuff I need to know for when she’s gone.
She loved me when I was an angry teenager, I will love her now. At least she isn’t angry, but it hurts my heart to hear the sadness in her voice when she tells me she can’t do something anymore.
I do like eating with folks like you. “I don’t know what it is, but I’m sure going to try a little!” I also like to put little bites of everything on my plate instead of piling food up on every inch of the plate.
Late night final and I’ll be off to bed here once this is done and posted. Outside of adding calories and putting the dishwasher stuff away, have done nothing useful since my last post, which is just fine with me.
Coppertone and swampy, sounds like you both ate well tonight.
{{{JtC}}}, I know that feeling when I watched my father deteriorate. You just do the very best you can and remember the love they provided you.
And see y’all on Sunday.
I napped. I dreamed I was with with a group Civil Air Patrol kids that the Jerry Garcia/Jim Jones mashup leader was trying to convince to camp out on a traffic island during and ice storm. Dinner tonight was a Sazarac, with black bean garlic chicken stirfry. Watching F1 Acadamy and F1.

Gordie calmed down when he was 10. YMMV(Your Mutt May Vary)
Yeah but you also have to origami 1000 cubic feet of box into 1000.2 cubic feet of shelf.
YaY
This doesn’t need it’s own thread and I think Dopers and Mumpers can give me good opinions. I want to get a bottle of sweet wine, as I don’t like dry. It doesn’t have to be a fine wine, it could be something cheap. What would you recomment?
I remember a vet in Lansing Michigan who ran the Ailurophile clinicl Her entire practise was cats, but in the waiting room she had a canary in a Tweety style cage. All the waiting cats kept their eyes locked on it.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 7c/45f with a predicted high of 8c/46f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Today is merely a fucking average day with some fucking clouds.” That would explain why it’s all bright and shiny out there.
Nut good job avoiding the fog bank, I don’t like driving in it either because I don’t trust other people!
I want NOBODY in my kitchen when I’m cooking. I know what I’m doing and I have a plan.
Same here, it’s my kitchen and my meal to cook so anyone else can keep out unless they’re offering to make tea or wash dishes.
We’ve always donated at the upper end, as these folks work very hard to make sure we are all taken care of. End rant.
Very generous of you - perhaps the other people donating at the lower end think of it as donating to only one person out of the entire staff? I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better after a restorative egg sarnie.
I did not know what some of the food I ate was, but it was good.
Recent immigration in our area has brought a host of new food with it. We found a tiny Nigerian place in our local shopping precinct, and there are a handful of African restaurants in town. I have no idea what most of the food on the menu actually is, it’s fun to ask the person serving what they would order and then try it out.
She loved me when I was an angry teenager, I will love her now.
I was the same with my mum, and still feel guilty that I didn’t do enough for her. But we do the best we can, and you’re still a Good Person for thinking of others all the time.
After our long night out on Friday, we had the complete opposite yesterday. I had no big plans for the day, the weather was dreary and definitely not a day to be going outside if it wasn’t necessary. I did some laundry, did a couple of little jobs, and we channelled shoe and ordered pizza for dinner last night. Spent the evening drinking tea and watching a film, and I was in bed by 11pm. Up bright and early today to feed the cats and empty the litter trays. Today I have to sort out the t-shirts I want to take with me when we go to Scotland on Wednesday, and write myself a list of jobs to do before we leave. Stuff needs cleaning and tidying, I have a bit of shopping to do but not much, I need a list of what to pack, and supplies to get from the pet store. I’m working at home on Monday and Tuesday which is useful for me, and I can slip out to the shops on my lunchbreaks.
We have leftover pizza for lunch so that’s one meal I don’t need to think about, and I have some chicken already thawed and ready to become curry for dinner tonight. Now it’s time for more tea while I contemplate which job to tackle first.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 61 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 78 and sunny. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have second verger/acolyte herder duty. It’s Christ the King Sunday, so we will have a big processional/recessional with at least most of the acolytes. I will herd the younger ones. They do well, but do need some prompts along the way. The main need to feed will be stoner food for lunch. The rest of the day will be devoted to high RDOS inactivities.
{{{JtC}}} all you can do is love your mom and do what you can for her. It’s not easy watchin’ one’s ‘rents decline.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. I am still pretty full from last night, but gotta eat so I can take meds. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Up, caffeinated and sheveled. Off to day. Morning cleaning shall commence shortly, followed by afternoon hockey and sloth.
Her entire practise was cats, but in the waiting room she had a canary in a Tweety style cage. All the waiting cats kept their eyes locked on it.
Sounds like canary Hell.
Fog is wild,
Back when I used to drive over the Nice Bridge between MD and VA, there was a foggy morning when I got to the crest and I was above the fog layer that completely obscured the other side. Dahlgren was GONE!!! That was easily my weirdest commute.
I want to get a bottle of sweet wine, as I don’t like dry.
FCD isn’t a wine drinker, but he likes Moscato because it’s sweet and fruity. There are a number of different bottlers and I assume slight variations. I think he particularly likes Moscate d’Asti because it’s a bit bubbly.
OMG - the cat on the birdcage is a hoot!!
I was the same with my mum, and still feel guilty that I didn’t do enough for her.
FCD’s dad did beautiful woodwork, as I’ve mentioned before. Well, as FCD’s been doing all this woodwork for the boat, he’s using the tools that were his dad’s. And he’s feeling guilty again about not having been able to do more for his dad. He can’t seem to accept that the man was 92 with dementia and heart problems and no one could have done anything for him. So he’s having nightmares again. And he refuses to consider counseling. I’m at a loss…
Today has started in the mid-30s, possibly hitting 60 Ferrets this afternoon, with sun. Good day to roll out the smoker. I need to get it moved pretty soon so I can get the bird started. The day will be mostly tending to that with little chores between putting chips in the smoker. I’ll try to take Otis for a walk at some point. Chores have already started - the icemaker is making ice. Someone in this house likes to fill his glass to the top with ice, then when his drink is gone, the remaining ice goes in the sink. Makes me crazy!!!
Anyway, it has begun. Happy Sunday!!
Good morning.
It’s been raining for the last several hours and will continue until around 9:00 or 10:00 a.m. The current temperature is 41°F, and the expected daytime high is 51°F. After the rain stops, the day will remain cloudy.
taters, I completely get that. I’ve had 3 German shepherds, and I wouldn’t have tackled them for regular baths, either! It’s unlikely that the allergies Buster and Maisie suffer from are due to a skin yeast infection in any case. I’m still kind of gobsmacked that Ollie’s issues have been so easily resolved. I’ve cut the baths down to about every 3rd day, so that’s nice, too. May Buster and Maisie’s itch issues be resolved with similar ease.
It’s still debatable as to whether it’s a food allergy or an environmental/seasonal one. They both are currently suffering from ear yeast, but Buster also has a bacterial infection on his belly, where there isn’t much fur. Maisie also licks and licks and licks her paws. The shot seems to have helped some in that regard.
Nothing much got done yesterday. My husband still felt pretty cruddy and once again, had the grumpiness to go with it. He didn’t use Nyquil last night, so maybe he’ll do better today. I have decided that if his cough doesn’t improve in the next three days, I’ll make an appointment with a doctor for him. Consequently, no bike ride again.
What funny cat, Nettie!
I love trying all kinds of new things while eating, and will even give things I’ve disliked in the past another try. I don’t think I’ve ever had Nigerian food.
Depending on how my husband feels today, I think we’ll try to bathe the dogs today. They need a bath.
I think that’s about it for my little corner of the world. Take care of yourselves!
Good morning all. Have pilled, made the Sunday NY TImes run, and had a couple of bananas to tide me over until I dine at Logan’s Roadhouse. Another good day, 55F now heading to 66F, so not bad for late November. Nothing much on the schedule, will probably go to the gym as I can do reading/watch tackleball on the cycle/treadmill machines and browse my phone when I take a break, so it gets me out of the house and away from snackage.
Nettie, lovely pics and it looks more like new cat has just found a comfy place rather than thinking like a predator.
Cupcakes, sorry I can’t help out, don’t think I’ve drank wine in at least 20 years, but hope you can find a good one. And that canary had to be a very smug bird, all those cats and no danger whatsoever…
boo fae, thanks for reminding me to do a packing list for visiting Brother for Thanksgiving. With phone chargers and hearing aid chargers and this and that, I will forget something if I don’t put it on a list.
Happy de-heathonization, swampy.
FCM, if he won’t get help for it, then all you can do is accept that on this topic he’s an idiot, albeit one you have been married to for many years and love deeply. Stubborn, men are…
Taters, hope hubby gets feeling better soon. Happy canine-bathing time!
And now back to the morning internettin’; have a good day all.
I just changed the sheets and I think there should be a law that king-size sheets must have the top/bottom ends identified. Sometimes if there’s a pattern, you can figure it out, but solid sheets? HAH! And yes, I got them 90° off on the first try. Dammit. However, I did use a sharpie to write TOP along the appropriate hem.
I put the electric blanket on. It’s really more of an electric pre-warm device. I’ll turn it on about an hour or so before bedtime so it’ll be all toasty when I climb under the covers. It’s weird - I wear shoes and socks all day, but when I get ready for bed, my tootsies are COLD!!! Sometimes I’ll wear bed socks, but I prefer not.
The smoker is smoking after a bad start. I forgot to take the extra shelves out. I forgot to put the water in the pan. I forgot gloves. I think I opened and closed the stupid thing 4 times before I got the turkey in, dropping the temp from 225° to 190°. But it’s where it’s supposed to be, and I’ll just add a little extra time . I started at 8 and according to the guide, it should go just over 8 hours. I’ll let it go till 5. It’ll be getting too dark by then to be messing with it outside. And if it’s not up to temp, I can finish it in the oven.
Then the problem will be that we can’t eat it yet. OK, technically I suppose we can, but by the time it rests and gets carved, it’ll be way past our suppertime. I pulled a ham steak out - we’ll have ham tonight, and I’ll cut up the rest for bean soup. And tomorrow, I’ll cut up and portion the smoked bird according to my schedule.
Now tho, I have a little time for chillage.
Got up and outa here by 10:00 to hit the grocery. Picked up a 14 pound free-range turkey ($45!!!) and some other stuff for T-day and breezed through the place while all the suckers were at church. I’m going to make stock later today or possibly tomorrow, then the dressing the next day, and probably roast the turkey on Wednesday, but may have to hold off until Thursday for lack of refrigerator space.
Breakfast was French toast and the sugar is trying hard to put me under, so a nap may be in order.
Big all-residents meeting tomorrow with the facilities manager. I imagine he’ll try to soothe everyone’s dander and assure us that they only want what’s best for us. After that recent hire, I’m not too impressed with his assessment of job applicants.
FCD put a coat of non-skid on the platform. If you have reeeeeeeally good eyes, you can see where it starts about an inch anna half or so in from the edge. Tomorrow, the whole platform will get a clear coat, then it’ll be done. Well, except it might get a stainless steel strip along the edge to protect it from people who crash into it.
This is the base of the hatch over the forward berth. It was coming apart, so it’s now been glued together and clamped (duh) till the glue sets. Then I’ll strip it and sand it and FCD will build the new structure on top of it. Once it’s all done, it’ll get cetol.
But we’re done in the shop for today. I think.
Turkey has just under 3 hours to go before I bring it in. Chillage till then.
FCM, I left my phone at the restaurant and had to go back to get it, so my memory ain’t so hot either. At the gym now and taking a break after 60 minutes of pedaling. Walkies is next, I’ll try for 60 minutes but may have to toss in a break
Dinner was good but the restaurant was out of both Coors Light and Diet Coke so made do with some sweet tea.
Now need to finish a chapter and start marching at a steady 3.3mph. Talk more when I get home (with my phone this time).
