(Old) Hunt for Bed October in the MMP

And a good late afternoon all. Ended up going to the gym anyway because nothing on the You Tube or TV particularly interested me. Home now and have snacked and checked my mail (several groups want my money, Viking cruise lines has not given up trying to tempt me to sail with them, and Kroger sent me coupons). Will dress appropriately and head to the fields in about an hour to practice with the 7 year olds. Will watch tackleball on the Amazon Prime while browsing the internet and eating my Cheeburger once I return home.

Forgot to pack my belt again so had to walk out of the gym holding up my Denim shorts, so came home and ordered a couple pair of 38" waist shorts…which of course will get here just in time for the weather to change for the cooler…ah well, I’ll just keep both sets and see what I fit into come next May…

Dicey, we have a chilly…81F to walk in, so feel free to visit anytime… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Taters, anymore Business and First Class are much the same thing, except for the long-hauls routes–at least that has been my perception. Since I only fly 1-2 times a year anymore, I do try to get a Business Class seat if it’s overnight…most of them go flat now and make a fairly decent bed. And the military does try to take care of their own.

Obviously the coach passenger’s prayer (“O Lord, let the middle seat be empty”) was answered this time…a rare occurrence.

FCM, it was part of my instructions from the pharmacy and also on (albeit tiny type) the bottle, but it might have been something different for your MIL–and I see BBBoohas answered it much better. And sounds like Otis is adapting well; he must have had some training before being left.

Oopsie, take your time on adjusting, do what you feel comfortable doing. And congrats on the new terlet seat; not sure if I could manage than or not (and would prefer never to have to find out…)

Cookie, good luck on replacing the stickers; I expect it will go smoothly, bet you’re not the first person to do that.

And just about time to pull on the knee-length soccer socks and shorts and get myself ready to teach some more soccer (which they will forget faster than I forget to pick up my car keys heading out the door).

More or less later.

I guess I didn’t mention I’ve been a sustaining member of our local NPR station, WVPE 88.1 since we moved here.

The neighborhood landscaping crew from Sodfathers was zipping around on their big mowers this afternoon.

I was caught out today.

I haven’t been walking as I should. There were errands that needed attention earlier, but I finally got out today. I walked a different, shorter (1..86 miles) route that I haven’t done in years. Basically, just going around the block. As I was walking down the hill to the corner market, Wifey, RN was driving up it. I guess her first patient was local. Anyway, she waved and I waved back.

Today we’ll be going down the beach for ‘dinner’ and cocktails.

Well, I’ve gotten through the annual hell that is my COVID vax. Pretty much lost the last couple of days, but better now. No idea why those hit me so hard – few others do – but it must be done, especially with all the new research showing that the more times you get it, the greater your chances of suffering Long COVID. No, thanks!

I can’t possibly keep up with you all, but a few Notables:

Oopsie, well done on terlet repair! We single wimmins who run households find we’re perfectly capable of doing things previously left to menfolk. I’ve become quite the DIYer myself, although I’d rather not. Have fixed toilets, faulty locks on sliding glass doors, spa repairs (multiple), simple electronics… you get the idea. Now, if I could just talk myself into tackling a sink replacement.

boo and metal mouse, I take my levothyroxine at around 3:00 a.m., when I invariably wake up for a bio break. Then the wait for coffee in the morning isn’t so interminable.

flyboy, have a pleasant evening with your beloved spouse tonight down the beach. It sounds so nice!

I got some necessary paying work done this afternoon so that’s off my neck for the week. Ollie and I took a nice walk around the pasture and I noted all the places where I need to have blackberries removed. Gad zooks, those things can take over! I love the berries, but come on!

Nelson was about 8 months old when he began lifting his leg. He still squats sometimes when he’s nervous (big dogs around or a lot of noise). Once you begin following him around, you’ll find out if he’s a righty or a lefty too. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sis and I hit several thrift stores today. They seem to be better on her side of town. Then we went to Chinatown to a good Asian supermarket, where we both bought spices, produce and tea. There are a couple of the spice blends that I’ve not worked with, so’s I’ll try them on eggs first to get the flavor profile. We stopped for tea and a nosh at one of the tea shops.

Home now and chilling.

Howdy Y’all! We went to the hog trough GC and then to Aldi’s. That wore us out so we needed nappage. We day drank out on the back porch cause the weather has been really nice all day. It was around 80 Amurrkin out with a breeze. Martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives, were had since we were feelin’ suave and sophisticated. Cigars, which we smoke occasionally, were enjoyed as well. We did not wear tuxedos. Tshirt and shorts were our attire along with slippers. The neighbor’s house was bein’ pressure washed, so we had entertainment . We are easily amused.

@Aspenglow: IANA rural person, but I find the idea of “too many blackberries” to be very hard to understand. Unless the real problem is the beastly bushes, not the heavenly berries.

Good suggestion about taking the levo during a bio break. I’m not on the stuff and have no particular expectation one way or the other. But the idea of being NPO every damned morning for an hour would suck lots. Now I’ve got a good workaround for whenever I may need it.

@missred, that sounds like a just about perfect day. Same for swampy.

@Johnny_L.A good luck at date night.

My yesterday was quite productive, then turned into too much food, drink, & smoke. Followed by staying up waay too late pointlessly babysitting one last load of laundry. Then after poor sleeping had to get up earlier than desired to go to an appointment. Grumble creak groan. Thus ended productivity.

Came home a bit before noon, enjoyed a fine 2 hour nap, then a lazy afternoon, out for cheap but adequate prime rib w no drinks at the local sports bar, then home again. Due to a tropical wannabe system nearby we’re having rain off and on all day & night. Great for napping, bleah otherwise.

Tonight shall be an early bedtime. Tomorrow I’ve cleverly set yet another appointment for 10am, so there will be limited RDOS before, but plenty after.

Between the ongoing rain and the slightly cooler temps, I’m at that magic time of year where I’d be more comfortable to lean into the change and dress for winter, rather than pretend it’s still warm, dress for summer, and be constantly chilly both indoors and outdoors. Can I do this, rather than stubbornly trying to will the summer warmth back into the air with my shivering? We’ll see. For reference, we’re talking daily lows of ~73/23 and highs of ~82/28. But wet. Brrr!!!

Back in her world GF is battling her badly backlogged agenda. Poor thing is pulled 8 ways to Sunday. Meanwhile I’m bored.

You’ve clocked it proper. I love the berries and picked about 30 cups of them this year for jam and pies. but the brambles are nasty. Here in Oregon, we think of them like kudzu.

Gave a sample at dr’s yesterday. Made the mistake of reading the results.
Negative for everything except small amount of leukocytes ( has happened before) and squamous epithelial cells. Messaged dr.
Went to employer. She sent me onboarding.
Maybe I can work 2 jobs. The first place only wants me 2 days. Maybe this one will let me have 3 or 4.
She seems open to how many I want.

‘Kudzu of the North’.

It was. The tide was high, and high clouds provided a little shade from the Sun. I had the grilled Caesar salad with grilled chicken and a couple of negronis. The Missus had filet mignon medallions with potato pavé and asparagus, and a couple of Hemingway daiquiris.

Up from naptime. Having a Mai Tai. Dinner tonight is Italian Chicken with rosemary pepper potatoes, and green beans and mushrooms. Spot is in a bite-y mood.

It’s an easy swap, I’ve done it multiple times.

No wolf whistle from her?

But you’re holding on?

Sounds like a plan

Spot is horrified by this.

She said after she got home, ‘I saw this guy walking, and I thought, “He has the same shirt we have!”’ (We both have Hawaii Volcanos National Park long-sleeve T-shirts.) Then she realised it was me. Or I. I would have thought she’d recognise the faded Ocean Kayak hat that I wear, and my hiking stick that I use on my walks.

Evening all. Soccer practiced, Cheeburger eaten, and temperature is now down to 68F so the AC is getting the night off. Will head off to bed soon, tackleball is in the 4th quarter but is not keeping my interest very much,. Have got the Firday shopping list done and the coupons collected, so ready for that mission tomorrow.

Knots, don’t know if I’m a member officially, but the local NPR station and Alabama Public TV get annual contributions from me. And Sodfathers is a great company name!

Bright Tree, sorry the COVID shots affects you so much, outside of an achy arm for a day or so I have no issues with it or any other shot. And I concur, if I wake up early and if I feel like walking to wear I keep the pills and if I have water there, then I also take my pills early. Had something growing on my fence with tiny berries, now I wonder if it was a blackberry plant. Think I’ve got it all pulled up but will keep an eye on the spot.

red, sounds like you’re learning your way around the new place. Hope the new spices taste good.

swampy, need to get my driveway and sidewalk washed, maybe the house too…sometime…

Coppertone, hope the work plan works out. The more options you have, the better IMHO.

Probably so, but I know me and tools…

And heading toward 10pm so off to Slumberland in a little bit. Catch up with y’all on Firday.

You don’t have to be NPO (nothing per mouth), you can have all the water you want. I’ve known to sneak in black coffee at about the 30 minute mark, figuring it’s not really food since it has no calories. Of course that doesn’t work so well if you want milk, sugar or cream in it. Then it becomes food and is verboten.

It sucked when I had to be at work at 6am because then I’d have to get up at about 4:30 to fit the pill in and then wait the time so I could eat breakfast to start up a long work day. Given my druthers I wouldn’t go to bed til 3:30am, much less be chipper about a 4:30 alarm. I miss nursing but I’m glad those 6am shift starts are over.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. it’s currently 49 degrees Ferret Height(9.4 Centipedes). I’ll actually wear a sweatshirt to work.
People with normal cats leaving for work: “I’m going to work, be a good cat.”
Me: [Darth Vader]“No disintegrations”[/Darth Vader]

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/59f with a predicted high of 18c/64f and cloudy. Weather app says “Fucking loitering clouds”. They may well be the ones hanging around from yesterday, and it’s raining. Don’t care, I’m at home and not going anywhere outside the house today.

To be fair, I was in bed by 11.30pm and didn’t have to get up until 7.30am as I swapped today for a work at home day!

Having looser clothing when you’ve got bandages to contend with is a blessing, you can still be comfortable and respectable at the same time!

They are so tiny, but so adorable and probably only a month old. The littlest one weighs 340g so he’s about a third smaller than his two brothers and he has some health issues as well with his back legs but he’s improving and they are all happy little boys.

Then let them spend the rest of the day trying to work that one out!

You’re right, there will be sad moments and little reminders too, but you get used to it eventually and sometimes I think it’s easier to deal with if you’re not “deliberately” avoiding being there so much. For me, I would be sitting in the office on that extra day constantly reminding myself why I was there and what I was trying to avoid. Somehow makes it worse and kind of prolongs the grief. But other people feel different and deal with it their own way. Do what’s best for you

Happy birthday to Mrs Cookie!

I’m happy to hear you survived, definitely worth it if it means you’re more likely to avoid Long Covid too.

I escaped from irk a little bit early yesterday and caught a couple of earlier trains to give myself a bit more time at home before going out again. I fed the cats, cleaned litter trays, washed my hair, had a sandwich and then ‘im indoors got home. We had time for a cup of tea before getting dressed to go out. I summoned an Uber, fortunately there was one waiting a couple of streets away and he took us over to KK’s. It was a busy night, the security staff were lovely as usual (same people who’d been working over the weekend), I got a hug from the security lady when we went in, and a hug from the other guy on the way out. Both bands were excellent, I’ve seen South of Salem several times and their new guitarist did a really good job despite only having two rehearsals with them! The second band, The 69 Eyes, is a goth outfit from Helsinki who’ve been going for quite a while. Never seen them before but they were very good too. Came home with a CD of theirs

There was some drama on the way though - I got a text message from Troublesome Minion telling me that one of the building contractors working on campus had reversed into her car on the carpark, and her insurers had told her not to drive it (that was after she’d driven it home!). She will get a courtesy car but not until today so it meant she couldn’t get to campus. I was fine with that, but then had to contact my other minion as he’d be on his own in the office. I did offer to go in (didn’t want to!) but he said he was fine being by himself. He’s recently had a diagnosis for ADHD and part of his problem is working in a noisy environment so I thought he would enjoy a lone working day. I was right, so I got to stay at home today too!

I’ve got bits and pieces to do, so plenty to keep me busy but nothing strenuous today as I’m tired. Aside from work, I have no plans for today and ‘im indoors is cooking tonight so I can have some sofa time with the cats. Muffin is being my office assistant today, she’s had some fuss and is now tucking into her second breakfast as she squawked at me about her empty bowl.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 (BRRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 81 and cloudy. Another good day to day drink out on the back porch. RDOS inactivities are the plan of the day. We have nowhere we need or want to be. Sup will be burgers’n fixin’s, and oven fries.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

It’s 0530 and Swampy is already caffinated and prepping to start his day? Such ambition.

The wannabe tropical system is just about directly overhead now. It’s warm (82/28) and lush and breezy overnight, not as cool as expected. We have both clouds and clear stars; the day itself is supposed to alternate rain & sun topping out around 84/29.

As I said last night I faded early and intended to sleep long. Instead I slept short so was up just before 0400. Feeling well-rested though. Seems my sleep cycles are jumping around a bit. I’d blame it on the time change returning from the California trip, but I’m offset early when that should cause me to be offset late.

Regardless of cause, I’m going to try for normal bedtime tonight.

Speaking of which, that was this week’s theme which I’ve not properly addressed. … Historically I was an 8-hours a day sleeper and an early bird. Waking naturally near the beginning of twilight and going to bed 16 hours later. But could easily go an hour or two either way as work or whatever dictated.

Nowadays it seems my normal sleep needs are more like 6 - 6-1/2 hours overnight most nights, with the occasional 8h binge (or nap) to catch up. So down by 11pm and up around 5am is my natural rhythm. This winter will be my 3rd since retiring & my second complete one since I got rid of HL. I’ll be interested to see how my shortening sleep needs interact with the later sunrises. With luck GF will be involved in a lot more overnights this winter than BB was last winter.

Happy Friday to all!

One of the things MIL and FIL were fighting in FL before they left was their HOA’s rule about drives and walks. If you painted them (an approved color, naturally) you had to keep them painted or remove the paint entirely. I always thought painting them was totally stupid and unnecessary, but to each his own.

Anyway, they’d painted theirs and it was getting ratty looking. By that point, they were too old to re-do it themselves and they contacted a company for an estimate to have it removed. As I recall, it was something over $8K!!! Repainting was not as high, but still a lot. I don’t know if they had it done before selling or not.

Do file that under “strange things that come to mind…”

That’s where our day started. Low 70s later.

Tho it’s laundry day, that has to wait till later. FCD (and Otis) found a break in our fence where the neighbor’s tree fell on it. So today we need to chainsaw enough of the tree to get it off the fence (which is just welded wire fencing - nothing exotic) then do what we can to repair it. We do have some leftovers from when it was installed, lo these many years, so there’s that.

He’s off to the boat for a couple of things and I need to shower and dress for our labors. Laundry will be done afterwards. So a full day of fun on tap here.

I had a strange thing happen on FB. I came across a former coworker and sent him a friend request. He accepted it, then the next day apparently he unfriended me. Dunno if something I’d posted offended him - too many Otis pics? Didn’t like my political re-posts? Jealous girlfirend/wife went thru his friends list? Not a huge loss - it’s more than 20 years since we worked together, but still odd. < shrug >

And my Office Professional 2010 Outlook is acting up. Sometimes it gives an error message that it can’t talk to the server. Maybe the problem is our ISP. It’s not a gigantic deal - I can reach that email account in other ways, but it is a tad annoying. First World Problems.

OK, I’ll finish my morning reads then prepare for fencing (HAH!!)

Happy Firday!

i don’t believe too many otis pictures is a “thing”.

muffin! what progress there.

we are having serious fall weather here. yest. the office became spooky land. ghouls, skeletons, spiders, oh my!
