Old SDMB Threads Dealing With "The Wire" TV Show

Searches for the keyword “wire” don’t work. I have found a number of old threads from as old as 2002 by a keyword search on “mcnulty” but I suspect that’s not getting to all of them.

If you were involved in some of those threads and know of a better way to locate them, please help.

I know better than to try to revive the zombies with comments from a newcomer to the series, but I am curious what was said when they were new and active. If there’s a recent thread where the zombie issue doesn’t apply, please point me to that. I started one yesterday on the DNR concept and several posts have been fun in reviewing the characters and other aspects of the show.

Wow, neat. It seems so taken for granted now that The Wire is one of the most (if not THE most) critically respected shows ever, that seeing posts saying “well, it’s OK but it’s no Sex and the City” sure seems odd.

Sure thing. I was one of those HBO viewers who loved all their big name shows but had trouble getting into The Wire when it was running as a current show. The praise it has gotten at SDMB had me convinced I needed to give it another try, so I got into the Netflix route and have made it through S3 (the last 7 episodes on On Demand – which will be up with S4 next month I think).

To think that such a show could have had such pitiful coverage back when it was available to all makes me wonder how many other great shows I’ve missed. At least I got clued into Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Weeds, and Dexter before they had faded into the past.

The threads I’m most interested in finding, over the ones in my list, are from the first three seasons, since I want to see S4 before getting into old threads discussing it.

Other than “mcnulty” can you think of a good keyword to locate other S1-3 episodes?

I’ve had no difficulty finding old threads by searching for “wire” in thread titles only. There are threads for most of the episodes from Season 3 on.

I had no such luck. One hit only. Is that because I’m not a “member” you suppose?

“hamsterdam” brings up quite a few. I didn’t look to see if they were threads that you’ve already found though.

Searching by episode title might work as well.

Alan Sepinwall is discussing the series again on his blog. He’s at S3, Ep 4 now, but there are links to earlier discussions.

Okay, “The Wire” Fans, I bit the bullet and gathered some data.
