I don’t recall the Captain Sailorbird cartoon intros, but I DO recall the cartoons they introduced – odd translated European (and maybe some pre-AstroBoy Japanese) cartoons. I haven’t seen them since. But one that I do recall well enough to identify is the French cartoon Jeannot l’Intrepide. Anyone else remember that one?
Does no one remember Droop-a-Long and his more famous partner?
Ah, what fond memories. I’d love to be able to finish crossword puzzles in seconds, as in the opening scene of Champions. And *My World * with William Windom rates a thread all by itself.
- “PING-PING-PING! Jack!”
There was also a show (non-network, I think) about a teenage superhero – kind of like Superboy. I can’t remember the name.
I guess you had to be born before 1960 to have any love for the kids’ puppet shows like “Diver Dan” and “Supercar”.
I [i[loved* The Noozles. There were, like, two or three Koala-themed shows on Nickelodeon back around that time. It was weird.
Was it My Secret Identity with Jerry O’Connell?
Yes! That’s it. I remember it being better than the Superboy series that was on at about the same time.
Anybody else remember “Funny Company”?
Anybody else remember Marlo and the Magic Movie Machine?
I was in high school when we finally got cable and started tuning in Nickelodeon right before the switchover so I wouldn’t miss any of “An Evening at the Improv” on A&E. That’s how I was introduced to “You Can’t Do That on Television”.
Am I the only one who remembers Zoobilee Zoo?
Oooh, just barely. There are whispers of their theme song in my head and I remember have some toy or sticker or something relating to Shrinking Violet. I was born in 1961.
Oh wow. Nope. They used to air that on PBS in the early 90’s after Barney. My little sister was three or four years old and loved Zoobilee Zoo.
People in animal suits always creeped me out, though.
When I was, like, 7 I had a total, unironic love of this show. I think it was the state-of-the-art special effects
**
Tiny Little Super Guy! Wow. Lived on a shot glass and traveled around the kitchen! Occasionally to go down the drain!
I can even remember the tune to the theme song, the words escape me however >.<
My own TV watching goes back to Ding Dong Schooland Kukla, Fran and Ollie so I’ve forgotten more shows than I can remember.
One of my favorites from childhood was Topper, a rather lame sitcom version of the movie. To this day I still watch anything with Anne Jeffreys or Robert Sterling.
Oddly enough, two shows I have absolutely no memory of are Winky Dink and You and the “Learn to Draw” segments with John Gnagy on Wonderama, which ALL my friends remember.
Thought of another one…
I probably only remember this show because I had an LP from it; unless they aired reruns, it stopped production before I turned 3
Birthday House hosted by Paul Tripp.
Clutch Cargo had maximum creep factor, bleah!
However, having invoked Andy Devine and Froggy, now you are compelled to go find a forgotten book entitled “The Armageddon Rag” by George R. R. Martin, because A) it’s pertinent, and B) it fucking RAWKS! Literally, as well as figuratively.
