Maintence is looking to put a tray up there to catch the pipe sweat. Right now a guy has arrived to replace the wet drywall.
I am off to my regular dr to discuss my recent uti’s.
Another hot day.
I actually start training on Friday.
So that’s where it’s coming from.
81 ferrets at 0900; 91 predicted for the afternoon. Heat advisory 1100-2200 today, and “patchy smoke” through early Friday morning. Bleah.
Finished the book I was reading, so I now have seven to be returned to the library this afternoon; five or six new books, and then a blood draw and a bit of shopping before returning to RDOS (in)activities.
things should get calmer in philly now. whew! thankfully the all-star game festivities were not in my neighbourhood. centre city did get a bit crazy with all the tour buses and people hanging around the hotels. fifa fanfest will be gone come monday. it is mostly local people at the fest now.
today is a blue sky day not a cloud… yet. we should get close to 100f today.
why is it still wednesday??!
I’ll add my weather whining to the others who are dealing with a heat wave: at 9:54am it’s 84°F (“feels like 89”), and the forecasted high is 100. It’s already 81 in my home office, so sometime between now and 11am (when day 2 of the all-day, CA-based meeting starts) I’ll relocate to the kitchen: I’ll work from there for a while, and when that floor gets hot – late-afternoon-ish – I’ll move to the TV room. Late yesterday I decided to order a power cord for my laptop so I can more easily work from elsewhere in the house; it was delivered a couple of hours ago. I have an extra one at the office, but it definitely can’t hurt to have another one here for exactly things like this!
Day 1 of the CA-based meeting finally ended at a little after 8:30pm, and it was glorious to go hang out in the TV room (a full 10° cooler than the home office) for ~90 minutes before it was bedtime. My back really wasn’t happy about spending 12+ hours in a chair – even though it was mostly in the good Aeron desk chair – and overnight the soreness woke me a few times, but so far I don’t feel too tired today even though I’ve been up since 6:30am. My back still isn’t happy, but I took some Tylenol and now it’s at a normal “I’m 54 years old” complaint level.
My Bailey dog would have turned 18 today. Facebook Memories is full of birthday posts.
I can’t believe she’s been gone for 10 months already. I still miss her terribly, but being in a new house – without her ghost in every corner – is helping.
Time to start setting up to work from the kitchen table. Laptop, laptop stand, external monitor/keyboard/mouse, various access cards, a Bluetooth speaker…it’s no small endeavor! Not to mention moving my personal MacBook from the TV room to the kitchen so I can keep up with y’all. ![]()
I haven’t read a book since before the move. I’m even a few issues behind in reading The New Yorker (my only print subscription). I haven’t figured out my “reading spot” in the new house yet…I need to get on that!

Hot with a side of air quality warning. I overheated at the barn yesterday so today I am limiting myself to 2 hours. There is no shade in the pastures and Ariel won’t go in her stall unless her neighbor is in, so I have to bring in 2 horses. No, the barn staff doesn’t bring in the horses early even when it’s effing hot. I would move Ariel to a different barn if she wasn’t neurotic. Obviously I love the girl but she can be so exhausing at times,
Then home to watch England v Argentina,
Important question! Would you change out the door hinges?
We are going to start painting. I have a guy with crew to do the actual work, but I’m the one paying for it so I’m going to say we.
All of the door hardware is gold toned. I plan to replace the round knobs with brushed stainless levers and of course the strike plates need to be changed as well. When Hubs saw the brushed stainless hinges on my list, he said it was a waste of time and money because nobody notices that sort of thing.
I notice it and its my project so the hinges will be replaced, but is my CDO even weirder than I thought? (Harry’s door hinges match the door knobs. I know because of course I’m going to be looking at them for at least the next year.)
Three bedrooms (OK, 2 bedrooms and an office) and 2 bathrooms are clean. I even did the ceiling fans!! I’m waiting for the floor in the hall bathroom to dry so I can put everything back in there. Go me!! I pulled the crate away from the wall and found enough hair back there to build a mini-Otis! I know there will be more in the rest of the house, since he’ll plant his carcass in various spots depending upon reasons.
The guys from the nursery came and replaced the dying junipers. FCD is working in his shop - I think I’ll ask if he wants to go out to lunch. I can finish my Happy Homemaker imitation when we get back. But for now, I think I need a break.
In fact, I think I’ll head out to the shop right now.
you could spray paint or metal rub the hinges…

i used the silver on gold coloured lock on my door. it isn’t perfect, like a new hinge would be. hinges aren’t very expensive.
Ooh, yeah. The hinges should match.
They aren’t at all expensive, like 11 bucks for a three pack. He’s just worse than a cat when it comes to making changes, the ones we have work perfectly well, no reason to replace them. I wonder if he thinks the door will have to come off the wall. Hmmm, I’ll ask him when he gets back.
I know its not the cost, he didn’t blink when I showed him the crown molding I’m ordering and I will admit that it is a little pricey for a hobby room. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Ekena-Millwork-3-1-8-in-x-7-ft-10-in-Primed-Polyurethane-Crown-Moulding-Actual-3-125-in-x-7-89-ft/50122567
Thank you, I needed the validation!
No reason to remove the door, as long as you get hinges the same size as the existing ones. Just replace them one at a time. Yes, hinges should match the handle. I’m guessing Joline is too short and George is too thick to figure out a lever to open the doors? Ms Peach has almost figured out the lever on the door into my office at work. I expect if she came to work more than once a week she’d get it.
Hot and weird light outside, it’s oddly yellow. I’m expecting a storm.
Personally, I simply prefer the look of brushed steel over anything gold- or brass-colored, so I vote to replace. One at a time as mentioned above, and just don’t even say anything to Hubs. Get it done while he’s on his game, and he won’t even notice but you’ll have the satisfaction.
Nandi definitely knows what doorknobs are for, but fortunately he can’t get a grip on them. No way I’d replace them with levers.
Ditto, just as I prefer silver over gold jewellery.
Afternoon all.
Tis sunny but not overly hot. WFH again, and I think I finally managed to figure out how to get this stupid bit of analysis done. It was still ongoing when I left, so I won’t know for sure until tomorrow, but with this stuff it normally fails out in a few seconds or works.
I sneaked out a bit early to go to the recycling centre- since they changed the opening hours, you can’t go in the evening and the queues at the weekend are huge. I’m trying to get the driveway and remaining garden tidied up, and there was a big pile o stuff in there that needed to go (now a lot smaller). One more trip should do it, and I can then properly weed and pressure wash the driveway. Called in to get some fud 'n stuff on the way home at the supermarket. Got home before I realised I forgot the aigs.
I was feeling a bit fed up with it all looking so bad out there (I still want to remove maybe 10 large shrubs), and with the random litter that I get blown or thrown over the fence, then while I was doing some pruning yesterday a random passing older lady stopped when she saw me and told me how nice the front garden is looking and how she really enjoys seeing all the flowers when she walks past ![]()
There is a road sign on the motorway going past Liverpool which directs people to the ‘Football stadia’. I always imagine the smug signwriter going ‘well actually…’ every time I see it…
I mostly prefer silver when it comes to hinges n stuff, but I have a large brass dinner gong in the living room, so in there I’m trying to stick with brass decor.
Less slammed that yesterday, although the sort lingered on again. Plenty of busted up furniture to re-wrap and damage out. I amazes me that my cow orkers can take a stapled double wall box of furniture, and turn it in to something that looked like it went through the transporter accident in Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The last one was a 50" LG tv

Que Syrah, Syrah.
That’s pretty not good of the system.
At least it’s not still Monday the 13th.
My CDO says this is normal and the natural order of things.
But how do you say “Romanes eunt domus” in platypus anyways?
Falklands 2.0!
My perennial lament.
The source of the smoke is Canada. They didn’t rake their forests. Now they can’t be the 51st state. ![]()
Falklands 2.0 was in the 1986 world cup.
Falklands 3.0 was in the 1998 world cup.
Falklands 4.0 was in the 2002 world cup.
This is Falklands 5.0 (ignoring “friendly” matches and rugby games etc)
Well crap, I forgot that the biiig music festival is this weekend. I’ll have thousands of hippies in the neighborhood for the next 5 days. The location is about 2 miles from my house. I hope it rains on them, it usually does.
Went to dr to get referrel to urologist. She removed ear wax! A good thing.
Bp 122/74.
88 ferrets outside.
Actually would prefer that to 88 degrees.
So would Doug Reese.
I’m a frayed knot.
