We all know of the ‘outragious’ ages in the Bible. Adam and most of his direct desendants lived for over ‘900’ years.
Some one here at my work said that their ‘years’ in the calender of the time were different from ours. A year in the OT was really 3 or our months.
Ok…this makes sence, but Adam would still be over 200 Gregorian years old.
Do we know for a fact (Or have evidence) that the dating system used back then was as my co-worker said?
In short: No, there is no evidence (that I am aware of) to substantiate such a claim.
Some of the time periods mentioned in the Bible are clearly symbolic. For instance, 40 is a “magic” number that means a change of generations, or the birth of a new era: forty days of flood, forty years in wilderness, forty days on Mount Sinai, forty days of fasting in the desert, etc.
There is another topic somewhere here on the age of Biblical characters. Search and find.
The very old ages are mostly from Genesis, after that ages become more reasonable. Moses dies at 120, but this is considered old (otherwise, there would not have been need for a comment that his strength was unabated.)
