Older Civilizations and...um..me!

I realize that this is an IMHO and MPSIMS thread at the same time…please be patient while I explain.

I’ve been watching a bunch of stuff on Discovery HD and the Discovery channel in general lately. What I’d like to know is…the beads, trinkets…etc. Is there a place that I can buy them without having to be from French Guinea or the Arctic Circle? Some of the things that they treasure as life changing, I’d like to own even though I’ve not lived the life. I realize they don’t have the luxury of the internet in most places…just a question that came to mind.
*PS…notice my post count…I ask weird crap very rarely!

Before somebody more knowledgeable jumps in, let me give my thoughts on this:

I think you’re talking about the beads, bones, shrunken heads, totem poles and other regalia associated with primitive indigenous cultures worldwide? Anyway, if that’s the case, it is my understanding that most of that stuff would be pretty expensive in our economy. With the lack of our modern entertainment, I would imagine a lot of the same time we spend looking at the tv they would spend whittling fancy head dresses, bone vests, beads, etc., just to pass the time. The jist of which is that you probably aren’t ready to spend the money it would cost to pay somebody for that many man-hours of labor.

If cheap plastic knock-offs are what you’re after, there are plenty of shrunken heads, totem poles, Easter Island heads, and whatever on websites all over the internet. I can recall at least one thread here where somebody linked to a site that sold pretty realistic shrunken heads. And in case you’d like to experience the joys of cannibalism, I think there is a company that sells something they claim is the next best thing to human meat.

But if you want the real deal, you should probably just try and make it yourself.

PS I didn’t mean to make this all morbid sounding with the cannibalism and shrunken heads; it is just what I came to mind. I realize you were mostly asking about the beads and whatnot.

Um yeah, whatever. Just Google “ancient antiques” and you will get a poop load of legit stuff to buy bro.

The question is a little vague. My father loved indigenous antiquities and we had everything from Native American artifacts 100’s - 1000’s of years old to a certified Aboriginal Australian tomahawk type tool. We also had this beautiful Inuit full piece of ivory that was engraved by native scenes and had some type of tiny peg board engraved for some game. Some of that stuff is worth thousands of dollars but things like arrowheads are cheap in general.

What are you interested in exactly in terms people, artifacts, and price? You can indeed find most anything on the internet. It is just a matter of price.
