HD is clearly the next step in home viewing, and more and more older movies are coming out in some HD format. How much is actually being done to optimize for the format? Are the older sources, like the original 35mm film, actually being re-scanned at a significantly higher resolution? I’ve always felt that a lot of standard DVD’s of older films look pretty crappy, like they did next-to-nothing to create a new electronic version of the original; in some cases, it looks like they practically dumped a clean beta version onto disc.
