Older Women Dopers - Anyone tried a "Menopause Relief" product?

Friends of mine who were on HRT for years,and then were taken off of it during the Bad Publicity discovered that all the symptoms they thought had been gone for years…the hot flashes,etc…came roaring back. We’re talking women in their 70’s.One friend’s doctor told her that all the HRT does is delay the symptoms. Technically she’s long past menopause, but the hot flash thing just has to run its course, she was told. HRT can hide it, but it returns.

I’m turning 54 and still having fairly regular periods. My mom was 57 when she finally started the 'pause. My sister is 58 and about a year into no periods…but no real other symptoms to speak of. I’m crossing my fingers and going to stock up on Estroven. I’m really ready to stop the monthly nonsense.

Early memopause is the norm on my Mom’s side of the family (Mom at 49, both Aunts at 47), so I am right on time.
I am quite ready for this to be done. I already have the crows feet and my hair is almost totally silver. Everything else is already “old”, my reproductive system needs to get with the program. :wink:

Did HRT for about two weeks and hated it more than the hot flashes. I know some women really like it, but for me that little patch was an evil migraine magnet. Trader Joe’s has a soy pill that took the edge off a little, though.
