How much does NOT resurfacing the ice between skaters affect subsequent skaters’ performances?
I don’t have a factual answer, but I WAG that one person skating vs. several at a clip does not mandate the need for a Zamboni ride. I think each skater must have to accept some level of ice imperfections. - Jinx
I think they do resurface between groups, though, don’t they? Every 6th skater or something?
I’m basing this off something I only sort of remember reading, though. I’ve never seen a skating event live.
I think they do resurface between the groups of skaters. But by the time the warmups end, the ice begins to look like it’s been used.
Still, one person at a time skating over the ice for four minutes is going to create far fewer problems with the surface than 12 people skating for 20.
I infer that it does not have a significant effect as I’ve never heard anyone even mention it, much less complain about it. The only comments I’ve heard about who skates when refer to the psychological effect of the skating order on the skaters and the judges, and even that doesn’t seem to be much of an issue.
