They’re opening a store in Rochester across the street from the flagship Wegman’s Supermarket. Where you can get several grades of filet mignon with the high end hitting $40.00 a pound. Or Waygu beef that’s 50% higher. And you get them prepackaged in the size you want or have them cut to order. Or a million other cuts.
Going to be real curious how long the store stays open.
I was enamored with the idea of Omaha Steaks some time in my 20’s. It seemed like high quality steak, delivered at a discount. Their “bundles” always seemed to be “we’ll include some things we can’t sell enough of”.
The steaks were ok at best. I’ve bought steaks that were 5x better at the West Market in Cleveland for far less.
Their burgers suck. They stick to the grill, are too thin and are just a waste of money.
If you have a local store, their steak seasoning is definitely worth considering IMO.
TLDR: A good butcher, and a good seasoning or marinade makes Omaha Steaks a non-starter.
I live in Omaha, and drive past the headquarters of Omaha Steaks on my way to work every morning. I buy my steaks at a small butcher shop a few blocks to the east of them.
Their coolers can’t be any cooler (ha!) than the ones I get when I order Lou Malnati’s pizzas. They’re about 1 foot and a half square cube, and yes, come with dry ice.
I save these and can see using them as a legit drink cooler. I don’t remember Omaha Steaks coolers being that big.
