This is just getting ridiculous. I finally make the decision, “Alright, I’m going to Columbus.” and sure enough, I get another call! This one from the company I work for now, but back in Toledo, which is where I was 6 months ago, for a job pretty damn similar to the one I had and was downsized from! WTF?
You know, I was fine, I was ready to commit to a change in career, from manufacturing to tech, and I was resigned to that. I had accepted that even thought the job paid more in salary, I was taking a huge cut in benefits (401k match dropping from a full 8% to 2.4%, and that wouldn’t even start until a year from now). I had even accepted that by taking the one offer over the other, I was taking a huge loss in salary (26%, by comparison). But no, they had to call. They had to get a hold of me and tell me about this thing going on up North.
Well, fine. I’ll fly up there this afternoon. I’ll get the hotel room, the rental car and I’ll meet with these guys. I figure I’ll be no worse off than I was two days ago, right? Worst case, I fax my acceptance to Columbus tomorrow like I was planning to anyway. Best case, I bilk another coupla’ grand, get another fat relocation check and go back to essentially the same job in the same place making 20% more than I was 6 months ago.
Sheesh.
(I’d like to state once again that I realize this might sound like “poor, poor me” but the reality is that I’ve been job hunting for many, many months now with no real, good prospects and now, w/in the last week I’ve had 3 offers. It’s a good thing, but it’s more stressful than you can imagine.)
