Edwards Air Force Base, at 5:12 our time.
Everyone cross your fingers, and pray, if you’re a prayin’ wo/man. And those of you in Southern Cal, brace yourselves for the sonic boom. Remember last time?

Woo hoo!
She’s on the ground!
Way to go, Discovery…
I just watched it live. The shuttle disasters I’ve witnessed twice in my life point out how dangerous this business is, but it’s amazing to see what some are capable of.
Woo. If that doesn’t make you all tingly, nothing will. Welcome back home.
sigh of relief Beautiful.
YAY!
I was glancing between the newspaper & the TV screen when it became visible, then suddenly- there it was on the ground!
Incredibly beautiful pictures of the shuttle on final approach and landing. Just breathtaking.
Congratulations to NASA and the shuttle crew for a job very well done!!
Yay, Discovery! I was really pulling for White Sands though. There’s something about the White Sands landing that brings out the nerd in me. They’ve only done it once (twice if you count SpaceCamp, LOL).
I was woken by the sonic boom as it passed over So. Cal. My wife didn’t know what it was, so I told her I thought it must be the shuttle landing at Edwards. I guess I was right! A landing in the dark, I didn’t know they would do that. I’m glad they made it home safe.
You got a lot guys here that are breathing again.
That is so fucking cool. I’ve only heard one sonic boom and it was wild.
Welcome back, Discovery.
I’ve been holding my breath.
Welcome home, Discovery.
During the live broadcast NPR had of the landing this morning, they said this was the 50th time the shuttle had landed at Edwards. Was that an accurate statement? I’d no idea there had been anywhere near that many landings there.
We just happened to be in Florida during Discovery’s launch and got to see it go up. One thing televised shot’s don’t convey is the tremendous tail of flame the shuttle puts out during ascent. That was freakin’ impressive!
(“Shot’s”? “Shot’s”? I’ve no idea where that came from.)
I don’t have anything of substance to add. I just wanted to note that I watched it land before I headed off to work, and when it landed safely and coasted to a stop I danced a little happy dance.
Happy happy happy. Oooh Oooh.
Ahem.
You didn’t see that.
Phew.
I remember hearing at least one shuttle coming in when I lived in LA. Super cool, that was.
Mebbe. But do you feel 1.3 billion dollars worth of tingly?
I get more tingly over this 1.3 billion than the Iraqi war which costs much more. If government spends money on advancing science and not killing people, that’s OK in my book.
Is that even legal??
Welcome home, Discovery.
Sheesh and I slept right through it, that’s unusual.
