Omnibus World Football Thread 2020-2022 (edited)

lol I keep forgetting, fair enough

Meanwhile, is Freiburg going to blow this Pokal up a man against Leipzig!?

I saw some rumors about Mbappe’s demands for staying. One was to get rid of Neymar (but bring in Ousmane Dembele) which would be somewhat of a reduction in wages. Could be total BS.

I’m trying to think who they would get to buy him and not coming up with great options. Being so fragile, I would think he’d want to stay away from the EPL. Barcelona don’t have any money. Real Madrid have a nice player in that position (although not as good and boy would that be some drama!). Bayern certainly wouldn’t want him. I don’t watch a ton of Serie A, are they still rough?

I don’t watch enough Serie A to know.

Your comments did remind me of a question I have, though. We’ve known for a while that Lewandowski is leaving Bayern, and as a fan I’m sick of the drama and a tiny bit glad to see him go. Similar to your comment above, I don’t think he could handle the physicality of the EPL (he’ll be 34, plus he’s a prima donna anytime he gets touched)… but what do you think about his fit at Barcelona? That seems to be the direction it’s headed.

ETA: I know there’s a lot of debate about whether Bayern would even let him go this year, but I do wonder if the Alaba and Süle experience Will make them a little more forward-thinking…

They should have an advantage now in extra time with one man up, but they didn’t do much for the offense in second half, so I wonder if RB also will dominate in extra time. At least, Nico Schlotterbeck is on fire in the defense in his last game for Freiburg.

He’s been a lot of fun to watch this year.

I see Tyler Adams has come on. It’s funny, Leipzig has a number of players I like, but I have no willingness to root for them whatsoever….

I’m not too sure. Xavi’s new and I think they’re still figuring out Random thoughts:

  • Lewandowski is probably the best 9 since fat Ronaldo (or 2nd?) he’ll do fine anywhere
  • Usually you bring in an older star if you think you can win something soon. I think Barca are 2 years away
  • Dembele has been the best assist man in the world recently. Lewa might just feast. Dembele is also a headcase, injury prone, and out of contract
  • Aubameyang is pretty fast and that’s been helpful. Lewandowski isn’t going to stretch the field, although Ansu Fati and Dembele can do that if healthy
  • I assume Aubameyang would need to leave and keep Luuk de Jong as the backup striker. Making that sale could be hard though.

I suspect he’d do very well but it wouldn’t be enough for Barcelona to challenge for the CL.

Thanks, I appreciate the thoughts. In some ways, I’d just like to see him go to see how he performs in a completely different environment…Barca would definitely be interesting to watch (speaking as someone who is mostly a Bundesliga/national team fan).

DiMaria crying as he exits his last game with PSG. He got a goal and a standing ovation. Really nice to see.

And now we got to penalties in the DFB Pokal (cup) final.

Only days after the shootout in the Europa final….

As we all know, German teams are usually good at penalties, so this can take some time…

lol you jinxed Freiburg

Dang, the fucking soda company got the cup…Blech!

Wasn’t really my intention, as you can guess…

Yeah, I figured.

I really like Streich, it sucks to see Leipzig win.

Wow, what a close race for the Premier League title! City saved it after being behind 0-2 until close to the end, thanks to two goals by sub Gündogan.

Sadly, I only could follow it on the kicker.de live stream, no pictures.

Man, Liverpool is completely dominating early. Slightly better finishing and it’s 2 or 3 0 so far. Of course it doesn’t matter unless it goes in and Real can certainly win a game that they’re outplayed in. Better energy than most CL finals, I think.

And their first shot-on-goal brings Real the lead.

It was the best chance of the game too. Liverpool has had a lot of chances but were all much harder than that. I wonder how cynical and ugly this will become.
